indeed.

It doesn't have a full library view though. You kindof simply go through folders. (As seen on the left)

edit: it's great for me cause all my music is hosted on my server~ so when i take my computer away, or i go somewhere, i don't have any music. Sure i could copy it all and sync, w/e~ too much effort. 99% of the time i have an internet connection, so this provided the solution to my needs.

Also, for those that use jdownloader in a server environment~ or at least wanted to, and couldnt due to it not being able to run in a headless mode, i've been trying out "pyLoad"

it can be run as headless, and also has an ajax web ui...

yeah, zimmer liq and i have had subsonic on our server for probably close to a year now.

i run one from my home computer as well.  i dont use it all that much though, id probably use it more if it provided proper tag support instead of simple folder navigation

That's kind of what makes spotify cool. It will look at you're library/playlist and match the songs with what they have on their service... without having to sync. That's the premium service though.

I need to get a cheap computer to setup as a headless server for my apartment so I can access all my stuff when I'm not at home. Can't be arsed to pay for Dropbox or something similar.

can easily be done for 300$ ~ also look into dyndns if you have a dynamic IP

Yea, I know it's really simple. I could probably just buy myself a used box from somewhere, slap a fresh HDD in it and run it headless real easy. Just a question of taking the time and getting the money to do it. Not sure if my girlfriend would be cool with it, either - she pays the electric bill, after all.

Something like this might be good for you. Specially if you're worried about power usage.

That's pretty awesome, ebug! Not sure about file storage... it can only store a 2.5", which means that storage capacity is a maximum of 1TB.

I guess you could always plug an external drive into it but that would be a bit annoying if you have more than 1 hard drives worth of data you want to be able to access.

Yea, I would really like to have 2TB of storage. 1TB wouldn't be too horrible, that would just mean some videos don't get saved to the server and are stored locally. I was thinking about going a bit crazy and getting a Drobos, though. Not the cheapest solution, but they're pretty wicked cool boxes.

I got myself a basic mobo with 6 sata ports.

From experience, i'd suggest not buying 2TB drives. they tend to fail quicker than expected. It makes sense, but still an put off. 1tb, even 1.5tb is a good place to start.

I had my drives setup in a software raid (lvm) ~ but once i started noticing the 2tb starting to be flaged, was like eeeeeeek~ so now I just run 500GB OS drive ~ 1tb for files / music ~ 2tb for movies / tv shows (almost full and flagged) ~ waiting for more molex -> sata converters from hongkong (lol 10 of them for $6).

The idea of losing up to 2 tb's of data at once is bad bad bad.
