You're telling me. I grew up watching launches from my backyard. But now that the ISS is complete it's just not cost effective.
If they shut down the James Webb Telescope (it's on the table) it's going to be a real shame.

It's a very iconic and unique machine. You could compare cars to cars, tanks to tanks, jets to jets but there isn't anything you could compare the shuttle to.
