First figure out what you want, then do some online searching. Some places really mark up firearms. Sometimes you can save a lot shopping online. Use an FFL Finder to find dealers in your area that do transfers. Call around to see what they charge. Smaller dealers or those who work out of their home usually charge less, $10-15 if you're lucky. Some places charge $50 or more. I don't know what it's like in NJ, but I'd think anything over $25 is high.Macbeth wrote:
I'm going to take the plunge and buy my first firearm. I'm probably going to just get a nice simple .22 pistol to play with at a range. A good part of me is saying "fuck it get an AR'' though. Funny thing is a 7.62 AR requires less paper work than a .22 pistol.

I think he means it probably saved him from getting robbed.13rin wrote:

Good luck reading a thugs mind during that.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

No, he meant he didn't have the time to rack the slide whilst being assaulted. The fact is that he went home instead of to the hospital or morgue. The assholes didn't.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

But it does matter to the courts because they'd be charging the guy with attempted murder, not robbery. I have no doubt the dude was scared, I'm just questioning him saying his life was in danger.13rin wrote:

Besides, it doesn't matter to the courts. A forcible felony is a forcible felony. In my state one doesn't have an obligation to retreat. woot!
According the the O.P. (shooter) one round was a Corbon/Glaser Pow'RBall (MFG LINK) and one was a FMJ. Shot placement is the key and even though he didn't kill the attacker, his shots sure stopped the attack.Macbeth wrote:
I'm just surprised he managed to survive two .45's to the chest. Must have been FMJ's.

Nobody could know their intentions in this type of situation. The State may not believe they could get a conviction for attempted murder and may go for a lesser charge (assault, robbery, car jacking, etc.). The police, court system and jury know the outcome of these types of events because they're reviewing them after they happened. The charges are usually based on the outcome of the crime, not the intentions. This attack could have easily ended in a murder.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

He had tested the Pow'RBall ammo and didn't have enough left to fill his magazine. The FMJ was added to fill the void.Macbeth wrote:
