about a month ago i bought my first car, a 2000 GMC Jimmy. I've heard from a few people that its not good to off road with because i could tear off my oil tank. I think if I get a lift on it i'll be able to off road without worry of getting stuck in the middle of nowhere. im pretty new to car stuff so i was wondering if anyone knew of any lifts kit or had any suggestions.

Do you want a body lift? Suspension lift? The latter will cost you much more.

Redneck from Rhode Island, what a surprise. Where do you plan on going offroading? The streets of Providence? The beach? Please.

Nothing says 'cool' like a lifted POS suv.

A body lift, lifts the body of the vehicle off the frame.  A suspension lift raises the suspension.  Body lifts are cheaper, but look like crap and do little for clearance other then allowing for a larger tire.  I've read that anything over 3" is unstable.  A suspension life jacks up the suspension.. I ended up doing a 1 inch body lift, and a 4 inch suspension on my jeep.  I'm running toyo 35" MT tires.  It came out pretty well.  If you raise it, make sure you have a hi lift jack to accommodate the changes in the event of a flat.

GMC=Gay man car.

Its a SUV so you got a shitton of room. get a afermarket alternator 2 extra deep cell batteries, a kicker warhorse 10000 watt amp and 4 kicker solo-x 18 inch woofers and set car alarms off as you ride by.

never said i was redneck. i go up to new hampshire a lot and GMC Jimmy was the only suv i could afford at this time. i wanted a tahoe or suburbn but it would have taken a long time to get that kind of money.

None of those are offroad vehicles. You're going to snap an axle the first time you do anything mildly 'adventurous'. Don't believe the commercials. SUV's != offroad vehicle (unless we're talking about a lifted Wrangler).
