gi bill used to be you had to serve at least 3 years of active duty time in oder to claim the benefit. it was only for enlisted. people who wanted to to join the military as officers would have recieved some kind of college fund, which paid for it all. now gi bill is given to people before they even put on a uniform.

Was reading the west point wiki and stumbled upon the point which states that the academy will accept you based on essays and recommendations. Last part is lame. Should be judged on academic performance only.

the only way to get in west point is through a letter of rec from a congressman, youre legacy or one of your parents recieved the medal of honor

the impression i get from my limited experience of sandhurst is that if you didn't go to a public school and didn't have the network connections (i.e. family history) then you're not going to go very far. im sure there are exceptions, though. it ain't 1917 anymore, i'm sure people aren't cool being told to go and get killed in a dustbowl by the landed gentry in nicer uniforms.

my army buddies little brother who went to public school and lives about 300 feet up the street from me is at west point now. he got in because he was really good at track but he is no where from a privileged family or area. its not hard to get a letter of rec from a member of congress. just need to have the high gpa.

i had a good pl who was a pretty decent dude. big time nerd though. tried to bust jokes you were forced to laugh at because he meant well but they were very unfunny. he cared about his troopers though

you could do the national guard ocs or you could do the active duty ocs which i think 18 weeks.
