Just make sure the compost you use is sufficiently old. At least a year.

cheers dude, yeah rich and aged compost is key. i'm gonna start an outdoor bin i think but this time i wont bother with a worm bin, too much hastle. if the compost pile is rich enough worms will naturally come.

i remember watching this video one time about green roofs or whatever in NYC. people grew a garden on their roughs with soil and shit and it provided a cooling effect in summer and insulation and warmth in winter. pretty neat.

Until the roof starts leaking/caving in. They're not built with having to support tons of soil in mind.

@Jay, i was thinking of the same thing. shit would degrade and get all nasty, and cave when the soil is wet and heavy. dunno, i would just grow a few potted plants and collect rainwater.

Wtf would you collect rainwater for? We don't live in the desert.

Holy fuck these fundies
Jason, Thank you for not being rude, sarcastic or demeaning as is so common on these comment pages.
I do not know how old the earth is and neither does anyone else. Science cannot tell us that either. All we have is data and natural processes by which we can extrapolate theories of origins and dates. And, this data and known processes can be legitimately interpreted in more than one way by serious and highly intelligent scientists.
There are evangelicals who will tell you they believe (but do not KNOW) the earth is billions of years old based on the scientific evidence as they investigate it. Others believe the earth is thousands of years old (but they do not KNOW either). And before you brush that possibility off, you should read the research done by scientists who believe in a young earth so you know their arguments and the scientific evidence that is there for a young earth. It might be quite enlightening. After all a true scientist will take into account and test all theories and not ignore some just because they are not fashionable or politically correct.
I think I was pretty damn polite and reasonable with this reply:
I can safely ignore them for reasons besides them being 'not fashionable or politically correct'. As an engineer I had to take more than my fair share of science classes and thus I understand the facts that went into the theories you brush aside so lightly. Suffice to say that YE creationists have next to zero credibility.

And no, a true scientist does not chase after every flight of fancy that people come up with. If they want respect, they need to earn it, not throw out a bunch of trash and expect others to do the research for them. If someone came to me with a great idea for a brand new invention I don't have to sift through all the data collected, and all the design features and everything else that went into it to deem it worthy. No, it has to pass data checkpoints first. Does it obey the laws of thermodynamics? If not, then it goes in the trash. Can YE 'scientists' account for billions of years of geologic data? No? Into the trash it goes.
