I recently upgraded my HD 40 gig to 160 gig. Great. Now when I hop in almost any server, I seem to be on some sort of autopilot where I keep running, even though I only pressed W for a second. It's now unbearable. I have turned all of my video settings to low. I've read through tons of suggestions from here and none seem to help my situation. It seems to have to do with my paging file (possibly). I have 1.5 gigs PC3200 RAM. When I set my PF to recomended 2304 Megs, it's laggy as hell. When I disable the paging file in the registry, no difference. I've followed badhq's top 10 video tweaks guide adjusting other settings, no luck for me. I've tried deleting my cached optimization settings. I've searched, just haven't seen anyone talk about this happening. It's not lag and it seemed to happen when I mirrored my HD which makes me think it must have something to do with the paging file or something. Any suggestions? Need more info? Mobo has Intel 2.6GHz w/ht. My system is clean of spyware etc.

It's no fun to be "that guy"

What's your complete system spec? How did you add the new hdd? Just transfered data from old one or did a new installation of XP and bf2? Can you play single player smooth?

Specs: Intel 2.6 w/HT
1.5GB DDR PC3200 (2x512, 2x256)
Seagate Baracuda 160GB HD Ultra ATA
ATI Radeon 9550 256MB video (Omega 3.8.231 driver) 400MHz (BIOS ap set to 256)

I used Acronis Tru Image to transfer old HD to new. Worked like a champ (except for this). Single player sux too. I found one server today that worked fine, switched to another, same laggy, stickey keys problem

Try defragging your HD.  I don't understand why ppl use large HDs, unless you're running a file server....

Well, I had some luck last night. I changed my paging file size to 1502 MB and max size to 2304 MB. I only had time to play one game to test but it worked pretty good. So I've heard that you want your paging file to be 1.5 times the amount of RAM in the machine. That is now my max size. Does that sound right?

Thanks for your help-

I used to have a 40GB HD and a 40GB file storage drive but both filled up over the past couple years. I started hearing that clicking sound that HD's do when they want to die so I figured it's time to get a new HD. 160GB only cost my $90 so yeah, that was the "logic" behind it. I'm totally unwilling to delete perfectly good porn

I downloaded some new drivers last night for my video card but it didn't make a difference. I have onboard sound, seems to be working fine. I can't think of any other other drivers that I would need. I also downloaded and reinstalled the full 1.22 patch. I really think it must have something to do with this new hard drive and the paging file size. I turned all my in game graphics settings to low, 800x600 60MHz. I'm pretty good with computers as I work on them for a living, but I'm no pro when it comes to video games and tweaking stuff for them. I really want to try to figure out what my ideal paging file size is. I even did your 10 step program last night and by step 10, I was on beer 10. Even my crossed eyes and slurred speach didn't make it feel normal.

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Best thing for you to do is stop wasting time messing with stuff and reinstall XP. With all the time you've spent changing settings and drivers. You could of had a fresh install of XP done. XP just might not be seeing your new HD correctly. Another thing do you still have the old HD installed? If so xp might be tring to read from both drives at the same time. Since you cloned your old hd on to the new hd they both will have boot info on them. Also if your using both drives the new drive has to be set to master and old hd set as slave.Plus they have to be hooked up to HD cable in the correct positions. If you still want to use the old had reformat it so it empty (no copy of xp or mbr on it).

I don't have the old drive installed anymore. The new one is master, at the end of the IDE cable. Everything works great except for this game. And sometimes it's alright. othertimes, it's this weird autopilot thing where the keys are just totally unresponsive and seem like they're stuck on stupid. Thanks for the suggestions

Update: I figured it out as far as I can tell. I went into the BIOS and had a look around. It seems that my hyperthreading got turned off somehow in the process of copying over to my new HD. Very strange. I turned it back on and Viola!!! All better. Thanks for your help guys

I hate going through BF2 withdrawls!!!

...I'm just saying, having an independent fileserver free from your BF2/workstation box.  No need to have any BF2 downtime cause you need to defrag, scan, move large files, etc.
