I want to upgrade from 1gb to 2gb and I Don't know what type I have. Does anyone know how to find out? Thanks in advance.
depends on the system board and the ram labeling. You may be able to find it on the ram label. Pull the memory out and check for a mHz number between 100 and probably 400 if it is a year or two old. If it is an off the shelf (Dell, hp) then check the vendor site. I am guessing you did not build it your self.
I didn't build it myself no. It was bought in January so brand new really. Thanks for the info.

yeh basicaly look on the side of the stick. Or if you know what model your PC is you may be able to find detailed information on it from the vendors site. Or you could contact your vendor and ask
I just had a look on the front of my machine and it says;
1024MB DDR2(533Mhz)
I also looked at that CPU-Z thing and says I have two 512MB sticks (in the first and third slots) and is built by nanya technologies. Any ideas?

That's pretty much it. You have 1GB of DDR2 RAM, comprised of 2 x 512MB sticks. The speed of the RAM is 533MHz; it's actually running at 266MHz, and 533MHz is the doubled data rate speed.Shadow893 wrote:

The only thing I would recommend doing is opening the case to that you have more RAM slots. Some times these OEM boxes will save costs by leaving slots off the board, so you may only have the two slots currently being used.
Also note that DDR2 RAM rated at 533MHz may be called PC2-4200.

I just went into Pc world and said that i had an advent blah blah and i want upgrade to 2gig,ive got 4x mem slots on pci motherboard with 4x 512 in each! They told me everything i needed to know. you in kent? anywhere near lakeside? thats where i went,im from deepest darkest essex!lol

Naughty_Om - Right Clicking My Computer and going to properties simply tells you how much ram you have. Tells you nothing about ram speeds or anything.

Go for another couple 512's,you wont regret it,like i said call pc world and ask em. it made a dramatic diff to my gaming. first in the game,no stutters all due to the 2gb!
