Anyone know if the time you put in the essex(gun for the ship) counts as a Ground Defense(mounted MG/TOW) or Air Defense(AA/Stinger)?
Air defence.

Thought so thanks anyways.
offtopic, but wasnt the essex sunk before ww1, which was why the us made the essex pledge and entered the war?
I think that was the Lucitania, but who knows. I'm no WW1 expert.Paco_the_Insane wrote:

There were I think 5 ships so far called the essex. The one DICE modeled (all aircraft carriers on bf2) is the latest. Sorry if i'm wrong.Paco_the_Insane wrote:

it was the lucitana or something very close to that, yes
It was the Lucitania which sparked of the US to enter WWI, you're right Havok. It was a passenger ship sunk by German U-Boats just off Irelend.

According to that site, there have been multiple Essex since the USA was created. The latest Essex was deployed on 1992.

isnt it called SS ESSESSESS?
Electronic secks. Schwing!!!
Sober enough to know what I'm doing, drunk enough to really enjoy doing it
Actually, the Lusitania was carrying a bunch of ammo in its cargo hold as well, not just passengers. So it was a legitimate military target. Also, this started WW1, but the US did not intervene until nearly 2 full years later, in 1917.Tyferra wrote:

The current USS Essex (LHD-2) in service is an Amphibious Assault Ship. It is NOT an aircraft carrier. I'm going to repeat this once. Ths USS Essex (LHD-2) is an AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULT SHIP, NOT an aircraft carrier.
You are correct. The ship's name is Saipan. The correct designation is Landing ship Helicopter Assult.NasmNLH wrote:

Edited for correct information regarding name

The one in game is therefore the LHD-2 Essex.
The profile matches that of the LHA 2 Saipan though. EA was not very good in their choice of names or profiles. lolk30dxedle wrote:

Really? It looks like an LHD to me...DSRTurtle wrote:

The AA on the Essex is called an MK 15 Phalanx CIWS (Close-in Weapons System, pronounced "seawhiz"). It fires 3000-4500 20mm depleted uranium rounds per minute and would obliterate a real J10 in a heartbeat.

I think the real reason they didn't make it like that is because tards would sit in it and TK anyone that moved...M1-Lightning wrote:

(read: I am bitter about BF1942 idiots grounding the ship repeatedly. Please ignore.)
An LHD carries 3 LCACs which aren't in the game either.k30dxedle wrote:

They were in the beta (hence the Up/Down keys you can assign in the Boat section of Controls) but I think there was an issue with the water clipping through it and blowing up anything on it, so they took it out.M1-Lightning wrote:

That sucks. Would be nice to transport a humvee or tank to the beach on Wake at 40 knots.k30dxedle wrote:

And yeah, there's renders even of the hovercraft. I can't seem to find them though.
