The global war on drugs has "failed" according to a new report by a group of politicians and former world leaders.

The Global Commission on Drug Policy report calls for the legalisation of some drugs and an end to the criminalisation of drug users.

The panel includes former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, the former leaders of Mexico, Colombia and Brazil, and the entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson.

I fail to see how politically it was a money grab. Could you explain further? Because the "war on drugs" tends to cost governments a lot of money, not generate revenue.

Also, I didn't realise you lived in South America or the Golden Triangle.

i live in a place where about 25% of world's production of opium is consumed. the only real results of war on drugs can be seen here, not where they tell you to look. come, i'll show ya.

as to revenues - who said it was supposed to actually generate revenues? a couple or motherfuckers sold this idea to you so that they could spend your money on the "war" they never really fought.

I'm willing to listen. Have you got some articles I can read? Because my understanding of this is the harsher the laws the more costly it is, due to the judicial system.

Everyone with a modicum of logic agrees. I bet even the vast majority of politicians do too. It would be political suicide to campaign for the legalization of drugs though, however I think the tides are changing.

I heard something like 35,000 people in the past couple years alone?

A mate of mine lives in Mexico, he said he often hears AK47 fire as close as 1km from his home. Every now and then some bodies turn up. All due to the drug gangs in the area. Pretty sad.

The war on drugs was a cover for the CIA to cripple or take control of certain crop productions in Latin America- similar to the anti-communist military action taken in the area. They also attempted to assume to control of the drug trade by propagating certain drug traffic veins and selling drugs themselves. Evil shit.
