Q. Can you provide me with a list of possible mortal sins?HaiBai wrote:
oh please. is this opinion coming from someone who has probably never attended a mass before? no one in church cares about what someone else does or doesn't do. it's not as if everyone is staring at the donation basket as it travels around the church, watching who makes a donation and who doesn't. no one gets 'frowned upon'. stop talking out of your assJaekus wrote:
Oh come now, don't be so naive. The "donations" or "tithing" have a social guilt attached to them that is attributed to those who do not make such contributions. This is how the church operates. Donate out of the goodness of your heart or risk being frowned upon by the group if you don't. That's hardly charity.HaiBai wrote:
so the leaders of the catholic church for the past 2000 years have successfully passed on these secrets without letting anyone know? yeah, im sure.lowing wrote:
you think the vatican is "one or 2 guys"? Really? Ever been to a Catholic mass where they didn't ask for money?........Me either.HaiBai wrote:
i dont care if one or two guys of the church are corrupt. every group is corrupt in someway. its not like this was a huge plan by some evil mastermind to profit off of catholics
fyi, its a donation. you dont have to pay anything
do priests and other random corrupt people occasionally steal? of course. but does that mean its a huge scam? nosource?lowing wrote:
don't forget the burning in hell thing if you don't "donate" as well.Jaekus wrote:

That's hardly charity.the church is already feeding the poor and helping those in poverty. even if the vatican was sold, poverty would continue to exist.lowing wrote:
don't tell me, tell it to those living in the vatican surrounded by treasure, while children go hungry.Macbeth wrote:
A quick google search says indulgences stopped being given out in 1567. As shitty as religion is and as backwards as the Catholic church is on sex, the modern church isn't nearly as bad as you guys make it out to be.
but then again, every little bit helps. so, let's say the pope decides to sell the vatican. alright so, who's going to buy it? who in the world wants to own a church? maybe we should tear down st peters and put up a walmart to generate revenue, and then give that to the poor as well. come on, even if you hate the catholic church, you have to admit that there is a historical and artistic value to the vatican.
but maybe you're right. let's continue and sell every single church on earth. in fact, many dioceses are trying to sell some closed churches right now. these churches are worth so much, we could easily end poverty! oh wait, nobody wants to buy the church. we could replace or remove the church, which would cost millions, and then start selling land. we'll lose money.
but it's the thought that counts. i mean, taxes will rise for everyone because every student that goes to a private school will now have to attend public schools. all the former employees of the catholic church will be without jobs, and the government won't get their taxes anymore. the church will stop donating tons of money to charities and victims of sex abuse because, well, it sold off everything just to fight poverty. i guess the government will also have to step up and fill the void that the church took up. in other words, selling everything wouldn't do anything for anybody. it would cause more harm then good.
stop trying to defend that stupid youtube video lowing. how about this: the catholic church will sell all of its possessions when you sell all of yours to feed the poor.
better yet, our government should care for and help it's citizens. let's sell the declaration of independence, the white house, the statue of liberty, and countless of other historical shit that no one should care about to end poverty and feed the hungry in america. if you can give me an argument to why the government of america shouldn't do that, you can apply that same argument to the catholic church.

and for the rest of your post I will sum up with an old saying.."practice what you preach". I give to who I feel deserves the help, and I do not tell you, you should give, while I sit in the mother of all mansions on top of priceless treasure. Wonder how many people the vatican could shelter and feed on any given cold winters night? hmmmmm
