I have an old laptop where the PCU inverter failed (dead bulb). I was thinking of removing the lid and wall mounting it with an LCD and just use the VGA connector.

My old laptop with a cracked screen got used on a secondary monitor for a while with Multiplicity.
Great for browsing/chatting while gaming, as no alt-tabbing is needed, just a shortcut key and you can use your M&K on the laptop.

I wouldn't do it, max. The larger L2 cache will probably bring the power usage much higher when idle, thus destroying your battery life, even if you aren't doing too much.

What's with all the crappy res screens lately? I have a 15'' 1680x1050 screen in my R500. Non-glossy too. Seems impossible to get anything over 1366x768 these days

It has been decided that you don't need more than 1366x768.

yeah, my asus laptop thats turning 3 this summer has 1440x900
and the thinkpad ones have higher resolutions, ideapad has lower ones. but the thinkpad laptops have no gfx cards. i dunno why they would do that

you can get a 1920x1080 T series. that and W series are the only ones above 1366x768 that i can see

I have 1920x1080 LED on this 15.4 I'm typing on now. A thing of beauty. And 1920x1200 on an older 17".
