Ridiculous.

Edit - Just looked up Wisconsin's fee and it's a whopping $28. Is that a burden for any non-basement-dwelling-video-game-addicted-no-lifer? No.
Indiana when they past a similar law made it so people could get voter ID cards, free of charge. The cost wasn't even an issue(free) yet people were still shouting "Poll tax!" all the way to the supreme court, which just goes to show it's a diversion.
Are you serious?? Don't these people have better things to do with their time? Aren't there more important issues to champion in the world than taking stuff like that to the Supreme Court?
Imagine if our voting laws were introduced in America. I think there would actually be an armed uprising.

Oh, some of us are aware.

The whole "photo ID requirements are racist" is utter bullshit and a straw man of the highest order.

But what if the photo on your ID were of a black person?
How is someone supposed to deal with that, even if they are black?

If it's your photo, it's a non-issue. Not sure what you're trolling for here.

Here no one registers to vote, you are automatically allowed to vote if you're a citizen and are at least 18 on the year of the election. Valid ID must be shown at place of voting, which is assigned according to where you live. There's a print-out list present that has the voters' name and social security number in it to confirm that this person is allowed to vote. The name is struck over by an official and you get to vote.

We get social security numbers at birth, so the system already knows who everyone is.

Thats almost exactly how it's done over here.  Minus the showing ID at polls and the fact that we have to register at age 18.

The registration seems from my point of view like an extra step that might keep people from voting "since it's such a hassle".

The registration process here weeds out those who aren't allowed to vote. The ID bit would do the same thing, so the part that isn't being discussed is how the voter ID would actually allow us to do away with the whole registration thing, probably realizing a savings overall.

You have to pay to register.
Weird state you live in. I just had to fill out a card when I was at the DMV. Every election cycle I see people standing around Penn Station in Manhattan having people fill out paperwork for voter registration. No cost involved.

Maybe I was confusing it with the license registration fee. It's been a few years.

I know here in Pennsylvania they compare your signature with the one on your voter registration card (which they have on file) before your allowed to vote.
