Like the architecture thread but about art.

Fauvism might not be too popular but I love it. Very pretty paintings. The color scheme. The themes. The shapes. All beautiful.

When it comes to sculptures David might be the most famous and well known but the Dying Gaul and The Kiss are my too favorite.

I know the point of the Dying Gaul was too celebrate a battle but I think that it along with The Kiss are two of the best pieces of art that could be used to explain human experiance.

Speaking of the Dying Gaul. Look i the lower left hand corner of this painting.

That is absolutely amazing. The entire painting I mean of course. You could teach a person to do math well or be good at video games without a problem but to be able to conceive and and actually create a painting like that is a priceless talent imo. If there is a god that is truly a gift from him. Amazingly show of human potential tbh.

Another amazing piece- The School of Athens

Very very fucking clever. Painting is of the school of Athens in ancient Greece. At the center is Plato and Aristotle. Around them other famous Greek philosphers. The really clever thing about this is that the artist who painted this, Raphael, had no idea what any of them looked like so instead he used contemporary Renaissance artist and political figures. There is also other references in the painting that highlight Raphael's genius. Like how the figure sitting at the bottom who refuses to look up at is painted to look like Michelangelo while the Plato is painted to look like Leonardo. It's a reference to Leonardo's and Michelangelo's legendary bitch feud. God damn, it's almost depressing knowing you lack the talent to create anything that will ever rival this.

So yeah, what do you guys think?

The date makes it probably Dadaist. I can't figure out what that is though. A toilet?

it's one of the most notorious and infamous pieces of art of the 20th century. it's marcel duchamp - dadaist and surrealist, yes.

as for myself in the visual arts, i'm a fan of anything from modernism onwards. cubism is an obvious genre that is easy to hold an affinity with after spending several years reading modernist literature: the shifting perspectivism and multiplicity of experience is nowhere expressed so brilliantly as in the cubist movement.

i also think that impressionism (from the late-Romanticist Turner onwards) is some of the most beautiful figurative art ever made.

what sort of question is that? realist paintings account for about half of all the paintings ever done-- more than half up until the late 19th century, even. 'realist' painting just means figurative painting, and i've already said that i'm a fan of impressionism, especially. i like the fusion of modernism with realism especially, too, such as in the works of edward hopper. i think that this is simply fantastic:

am i fan of the high-renaissance art? classicist? baroque? neo-classical? pre-raphaelite? i think there's much to admire (and much genius is evident, too), but my personal preference merely leans more towards the modern.

well of course that is true, since painting was the primary method to record visual information before photography, so many painters aimed for a very realistic image.

That painting's great. Looking at it, I expect the table to erupt in vicious fighting at any second.

Graffiti sucks. The train's cartoon paint job is awesome, tbh, but look at the dicks who had to stick their shit on top of it.

Vandalism and art are not mutually exclusive.
