Pretty damn awesome.
Pretty damn awesome.
everything i write is a ramble and should not be taken seriously.... seriously. ♥
what a joke of a journalist. could he try possibly any harder to aim for the 'topical' audience pleaser, or what. who isn't hitting on hipsters right now in the 'cool' media? it's almost hip to be anti-hip... sad that the conflicting attitude is now affecting even gaming journalism (i can't think of a possibly less hip social clique than fucking video-game gamers).Lucien wrote:

Mike Fahey — Should we consider hardcore PC gamers the hipsters of gaming just because they tend to bring up how PC gaming did everything first whenever an innovative new console title comes out? Maybe commenter Truthtellah has a point in today's Speak Up on Kotaku.
How to strike fear into the heart of an american: accuse him of being a hipster
fucking gaming "journalism"
I only read Kotaku for news, mostly because I like the Gawker-style of layout they use. In terms of editorials, they suck.Lucien wrote:

After years of reading PC Gamer, IGN, Gamespot and such, I've learned to sift out the obvious bullshit, so I'll take corrupt gaming journalism over the nonexistent gaming journalism of the early 80's. I just prefer user reviews that are generally conducted in an admittedly biased fashion, but aren't beholden to corporate whim.Uzique wrote:
the fact that there's now debates and exposés on the 'politics of metacritic reviews' shows just how beyond help the gaming journalism industry is... a supposedly critical and intellectual endeavour is now entirely sublated to an arbitrary percentage-index. so much for intelligent engagement.
This, to a certain extent. As far as paying attention to critics is concerned, I mainly look for their negative points to see if they coincide with any of my own complaints. Sometimes that may be a determining factor in whether or not I'll buy a game.DesertFox- wrote:
Do people actually listen to any of the things said by critics? I certainly don't look for reviews to determine if I will play a game or not. If my interest is piqued by some trailer or screenshot I happen upon or a story I look forward to, a bad review from some gaming web site isn't going to deter me. Likewise, I'm not going to go out of my way to play any game just because it got astounding reviews.

Like anyone who attends E3 cares about the announcements. Only a means to increase hits on your website. E3 is all about the mindless fun of trying out the new games, and other eye-candy I enjoyed in my younger days.Uzique wrote:
gee how about that for a professional benefit... you get to attend the cavalcade of mediocrity that is E3. i just can't wait to hear the announcement on call of duty 7 and final fantasy DCXVI ! such a surprise! oh, and atari are now making a motion sensor controller? how unique!
