Sad situation.  Kids lost the most.  However, the 12 year sentence was excessive.

Especially when the Honorable in a prior case sentenced er' rebuked an individual obviously hiding behind color of law, blatantly attempting to conceal the same stuff.  To top it off the she lying about being sorry (sorry she got caught maybe).   Come and apologize to me?  Really? On the other hand Mrs. Standupforyourbelifsbecuaseitsashittylaw gets smacked down.  As a Judge who would you respect more?

30 years probation... Ouch.  There's a system set up to keep you in.  I'd be praying that the Judge went outside the sentencing guidelines there.

But ahhh.. Yet another reason I love the States, various laws in various States and one can live in any of them..

sad thing is this happens more often than is reported by the news.

Police records show a handful of transactions with a confidential police informant.

Detectives had proof $31 changed hands.

So, it might be a little dramatic to say she was jailed for 12 years for a mere $31 transaction.  It seems as if there IS more to the story.  And seriously...do you think it's the first and only time she has sold?

Who cares? No one should get 12 years in prison for selling weed no matter how many times they've been caught.

Well, I care that some people could form opinions based on inaccurate information so I was merely providing a broader look at the situation.

It seems to me that you were admonishing the police for the bust when it was the judge that ultimately handed over the sentence to a crime in which the woman plead guilty to.

you couldn't really charge charlie sheen with a crime and the judicial system in cali isn't as backward as oklahoma. i honestly believe the blame lies with the prosecutor/judge.

Bad example maybe. But whenever a celebrity is in a "drug scandal" they end up in rehab and not jail. If this woman deserves 12 years, then the likes of Lindsay Lohan should have been jailed for decades more.

This.

Is the sentence fair..we cant say for sure, it say she has sold for 31$ of weed to a cop, does not say if she has been selling for years, and to who she sell it for. I dont really give a damn about people who take drugs...what i do have something about is the piece of shit dealer that sell to kids! For christ sake, you DONT sell drugs to kids! Once you're adult you are supposed to know what you are doing and able to deal with the consequences. But as a kid...you mostly dont know jack shit about drugs, alcohol and life as a whole.

@ Ken.  Shit those prices are high...a "Good" gram is about 15$ over here...shit weed is around 5$ a gram, sometimes less.

You might want to consider moving place mate! :p

Maybe the fact that one is real life and the other is not might make a difference? Let me guess, it is the TV's fault when people that sell drugs in front of their kids, have those same kids in trouble for drug dealing or using. Must be great to always be able to blame anything or anyone for your actions and your decisions. What a country!!

Imagine what we could do if we used all the money spent on the War on Drugs for things like education, science, foreign development, etc.

But no, we'd rather spend it on prosecuting someone for selling 30 bucks of a plant that's no worse than tobacco.
It's Oklahoma. They'd rather spend the money on creationism textbooks and abstinence education.

Parts are. Just as parts of every state/country are.

I never said that.

It's just that, pot is basically a ground up plant. And a child occasionally seeing their mother giving people small amounts of a plants in exchange for money is no more distressing to the human psyche as a child seeing their mother exchange homemade pottery for money. Now, violent television has a debatable effect on human child development and that is a subject that is no longer debated anymore. Violent televsion won the domestic policy debate.

I was just pointing out the rather arbitrary distinction? (I can't think of a better word than distinction right now)

Must be great to always be able to blame anything or anyone for your actions and your decisions.
