Yeah, I remember them being big when I was growing up... never been a fan but I'd reckon they'd put on one hell of a show.

Hot for Teacher is a wicked song though

james blake is the most overexposed artist this year. anyone that hasn't heard of him must have their head in some serious saharan sand.

you do realize that 90% of the population listens to top 40 and top 40 only, right?

in our age group? no i don't think that's really true. and besides which of the top40 crowd really goes to music shows for the sake of seeing good live music? they're happy consuming pop albums and listening to the radio and occasionally watching mtv. anyone that's interested enough in music to go to live shows at 'indie' venues regularly probably knows about the big names on the indie circuit. james blake is this just another one of those bon iver, fleet foxes, vampire weekend type 'sensitive' acts that indie crowds like to get into just so much because it's all so different and really fuckin' real. it's also featured and advertised heavier than coca cola at christmas time on all of the 'cool' music websites. really overexposed. of course it's not to the detriment of his music at all but i'm kinda confused as to the surprise about his 'sudden' popularity. james blake has been a name on everyone's lips since about 2009.

i take it for what it is... an album that will get a lot of 15 year old americans interested in 'dubstep' and acting like they know what they're talking about in endless youtube-comment wars. it's amusing seeing you fellas over the atlantic desperately try to clamber onto a musical movement that's been in motion for a long time already. i see some hilarious discussions in the musical blogosphere and in discussions, generally, now you guys suddenly 'get' all this real dubstep like james blake and burial the "grandfather of all dubstep" (what a comment)

bowery ballroom (a 500 person venue) was sold out... i guess that kind of contributes to uzi's argument

when i caught james for his first ever live show the venue he was in was maybe 350-400 people (in his room, anyway) and even then there was a lot of 'music press' types and 'alternative' types that i had never seen at any other show from that 'scene' (i.e. the london electronic/bass/dubstep movement, whatever name you want to assign it for convenience's sake). the crossover into wider appeal and to a wider audience had already begun at that point and that show was incredibly intimate and exclusive. so it hardly surprises me that gaggles of wide-eyed clueless teens in america are joining in the fanfare. it's basically been presented, packaged and marketed from the start as the 'accessible' crossover contribution from the uk bass scene for the rest of the world and mainstream music to digest and absorb.

it is true. maybe not within your group of friends or where you are, but here it certainly is true.

i know i, for one, dont read any of these 'cool' music sites.  i dont even know what one of them might be   i usually find new music through recommendations of people or last.fm/what

also: ive never actually been that huge on blake, its not really my kind of music.  but to see somebody so highly praised with friends at a cool venue seems like a great night out
