well someone at least should... dangerous if everyone turns a blind eye
libertarian benefit collector - anti-academic super-intellectual. http://mixlr.com/the-little-phrase/
I really don't get the whole issue with ID cards... They really make no difference than a drivers license when you're trying to prove who you are.Uzique wrote:
you have to be super sceptical about this. a federal chip in every single phone? even if it's just used for a claimedly innocuous and beneficial purpose (e.g. disaster alerts) - you have to think about the potential for harm. it's a huge invasion of privacy and individual rights to force every single mobile phone to have a government chip in it. what sort of telecommunications freedom is that? the patriot act has already been mentioned... is it really so improbable that, given an emergency in the future, more legislation/bills like this could be pushed through with haste and little democratic consensus? in that case, you can see these chips having a more malign purpose in the potential (and foreseeable) future.
in principle (not use) this isn't very different from the proposal for identity cards that the uk government tried to push through. that proposal was flattened, thankfully. having anything on your person on a daily basis that is government property, or at least a government interest... very uncomfortable with that thought.
not really a blind eye. i dont care if they know where i am. i got nothing to hide.Uzique wrote:

oh noes they see me going to work or the gym.

"well if you got nothing to hide then why are you so afraid?"
fuck that bullshit argument. it gives law enforcement/gov't greater power to harass the shit out of you and make your life a nightmare. what if it ends up in the wrong hands? i don't want to give more power to a government with a history of corruption.

i am not arguing for it or against it. i am just stating why it doesnt bother me.
Just because your own life is boring doesn't mean you should piss away the rights of others via indifference.11 Bravo wrote:

yeah, it was not directed at you. i was just addressing an argument commonly used by people in support of it.11 Bravo wrote:

Stupid argument... but what if someone decided that lifting weights was unhealthy and they outlawed gyms? Because of your obsession, you're now forced to go underground to do what you enjoy doing. But oh wait, the government knows precisely what you're doing and with whom because you gave them the power to track you wherever you are.11 Bravo wrote:

Government is not benevolent. It is power. Give the wrong people the ability and they will try to run your life for you.

can i vote on it?
You can vote the person in or out, but your vote doesn't mean much since it's majority rule.11 Bravo wrote:

Telemarketers seem to get phone numbers easily enough. I'm sure the government would have no problems getting everyone's phone number. The whole idea of a chip in every phone is just weird and simply can not be solely for the purposes they state.
Next question is how to stop it?

Nah, they'll rename LaGuardia after him. Bloomberg is clearly more important.11 Bravo wrote:
