Just buying the following:-

Intel Celeron D 805 (will oc to 3.8ish) + Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
2Gb Ram (Scans Corsair Value Select - DDR2)
3*500 Gig Hd (1tb raid 5)
Creative X-FI card
512MB ASUS Radeon X1900 XTX + Arctic Cooling Accelero X2
P180 Antec Case
Asus P5WD2-E Premium Motherboard
p460fg 460W Akasa Ultra PSU

So two questions, is 460W gonna be enough either a generic DVD writer + reader + normal gubbens, and secondly am I going to be able to have every setting on Max in BF2 now!!!

wow wow wow, dont get 3*500gb hdd's, u wont be needing that much space unless u work for pixar. 250*3 is good enough.

dont get that mobo since it wont support conroe = waste of cash, get this one http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1 … 442,00.asp dont use artic cooling... use zalman vf900cu, its a hell lot better than the accelero X2. tuniq tower 120 for cpu cooling, best after market cpu cooler out there, 50 bucks. psu is good, but i suggest 600w enermax liberty. as for RAM, dont get cheap ram, will be major bottleneck, get some patriot ddr2 800mhz, real good. 805D is not a celeron FYI, just a dual core but less fsb, good choice on cpu though

OMG spend a few more dollars and lose the celeron processor.....screw Intel go AMD....
460Wpsu is plenty for your system you propose to build.

if its a steady/stable 460 yup no probs...Akasa are usually rock steady...and this should play everything on max....mine does with a 256 7800 gtx

The higher settings are mostly affected by memory so 512 on the card and 2 gig on board should be fine

I would definitely consider a different processor if I was you, its a hell of a waste putting a Celeron with decent hardware like that.

You should be able to play all on high, but the CPU will be a bottleneck.

Will deffinatly look into this!

I didnt mean to say celeron either - oops! Looking forward to over clocking it though!

Out of interest why does the Ram hold the system back? I have never really understood how that effects over clocking?

Cheers

From what I have read the Intel D 805 is equivalent to most of the better AMD's - but only costs £90! Im sure I will be correct asap tho!

yes, think of it as intels stealth bomb. runs faster than FX60 when overclocked, and has 20X multiplier = easy OC. but i suggest u get that mobo and get a Conroe CPU since it will be released in july, add me to ur xfire, if u dont have it pm me or add me to ur msn, my msn is [email protected]

shows the overclocking ability of the pentum D 805, well in fact all pentium d's reach 3.8ghz on air... so 805d is the most bang for the buck

The good thing about toms is that it will also show you what mem you need and the boards that make best use of your chosen tools of death (CPU / MEM / BOARD

Yeah, you should be able to get killer performance out of that 805 if you can keep it stable!

Oh... and another noob question - ddr2 pc2-6400 vs pc2-3200... What is the differance, is it worth the extra cash? and any recommendations on Ram.. - I have dumped the cheap stuff, looking at Ballistix now.

Wait you are saying it is a CELERON D... A PENTIUM D is different from a CELERON D. If you are referring to the processor that tom's hardware oc'ed... it is the 130 USD Dual-Core PENTIUM D 805... Just to help clarify... Also, oc-ing it is good, but you will have a huge electricity bill just for using it... Be warned about that... good luck and looks like a good system!
