I didn't say it made sense. The Nazis dragged up and misused all sorts of historical stuff for propaganda and nationalistic reasons.Uzique wrote:

I don't go around calling myself a viking prussian. My dad does though. It's what my omi taught him as a kid.

I grew up on a steady diet of 'descended from vikings' and Prussian pride etc from my fathers side of the family.
Try going to a Scottish Highland Games. When the clans parade starts, watch and I bet you'll see people turn their back on the Campbells for some old betrayal or another. Which I find ironic, given the fact that Scottish or Irish blood accounts for less than a half of what most people there can claim, and the fact that even if they have any, their families fled the British Isles for the Americas years ago.Jay wrote:

Just think...if I was actually born in Scotland, I could be leeching off the English right now!
Live Once Die Twice - 8/10 Above "good" but nothing amazing
For starters Kellie Martin is a good actress and she's beautiful. Secondly, the plot wasn't too bad, I can't really complain about much.
Spoiler (highlight to read):
I thought it was a little silly for her to trust Evan/Luke again after all the lies he put her through. The scene where Mac dies at the end could have been filmed and acted better, because the whole slow-motion death scene is a little old.

Last Night - 9/10
Wow, an intimate movie and in no way an epic, but I loved everything about it, underrated in my opinion.
A realistic romantic drama set in new york. Follows the wife and husband of a modern civilised marriage, with both facing massive temptations to be unfaithful, this movie beautifully explores the complexities of love and everything that supposedly comes with it.
The movie has a lot of opportunities to lose momentum but never does, the screenplay, directing and (surprisingly) the acting, are all spot on. This is the first time Keira Knightley has proven she is a good actress , Sam Worthington was also surprisingly solid, this was the first time I had seen him in anything other than Avatar. However although in a supporting role, Guillaume Canet was the stand out performance. He plays the charming French gentleman who comes back to new york to see Keria Knightley's character, whom he is still in love with, and any woman would fall for his character, brilliant performance. The story touches base with so many different emotions, and the ending will leave the viewers with much to ponder.
There is dark yet somewhat comforting undertone to this film, and the soundtrack is one of my favorites, there are background instrumentals playing for about 80% of this film, and it works brilliantly. Definitely worth the watch, unless you're in a marriage that you feel like has run its course, then may be don't watch this haha.
One word to sum it up, haunting, the soundtrack again plays a large part in me choosing that word.

I know fucking karate
The film pretty much chronicles the worst of human behavior in China during WWII. No mercy, no quarter, mothers gutted with bayonets in front of their children, children opened up in front of their mothers. I was quite familiar with the Rape of Nanking prior to watching this. Still, hearing first hand accounts from witnesses and victims plays heavily on the viewers humanity... to be expected I guess.
I was a little apprehensive seeing Woody Harrelson and Mariel Hemingway in the "cast", but was happy to see their roles were limited to reading some of the historical documents from Westerners who were there at the time.

The Next Three Days -9.5/10
Really, if you haven't seen this, just watch it, I don't want to give too much away with my review, it's just one of those you're better off knowing nothing (like I did), then sit back and let it unravel in front of you.
This drama/thriller will have you on the edge of your seat, the screenplay is amazing, the characters are built up so well and at such a good pace. Whilst there are a lot of subtle twists and turns that you keep trying to guess where the story is going, Haggis's (director of "Crash) screenplay never allows the audience to get ahead of the story, I'm glad it was such a long movie, because the building up of tension, and understanding Crowe's character is essential to enjoying the final 30-40 minutes. One of the best thrillers in while, almost old school Hollywood, keeps you intrigued to the final second, I always know it's a good film if when I take my headphones off at the end, I have to adjust myself back to reality.
Finally Russell Crowe, whose character has to con himself into believing irrationality can conquer rationality, is at his best, phenomenal actor.
Will watch the French original version tomorrow night.

The Conspirator - 7/10
Good story, but the acting made me laugh at times. Justin Long does NOT belong in a movie like this no matter how small the part. James MacAvoy did do a somewhat decent job though. Overall it was entertaining and a good view into how the country was right after Lincoln was assassinated... pretty much as you'd expect.

AVATAR 3D still 10/10
-It was fun to see it again in 3d. What it lacks in utter originality and Tarnatino-like dialog -according to some crititcs, it makes up for with unparalleled visual quality. The blu-ray 3d transfer is absolutely flawless. Cameron's use of 3D is masterful.
Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D 6/10
-I haven't really kept up with the Resident Evil storyline and I'd never seen this movie before. It was fun and it didn't seem to take itself too seriously. They borrowed a lot of good Matrix shots and they used the 3D well; good, consistent depth with fun pop-out moments. Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter are always fun to watch and there were some funny lines mixed into the mostly bad dialog.
Tron Legacy 3D 7.5/10
Another fun movie. Excellent soundtrack. I hadn't seen this one either. Good use of 3D in the grid although they shot their visual load kinda early on with the light cycle scene. Olivia Wilde is intoxicating and Jeff Bridges looks like he had a lot of fun doing this movie. There were some humorous little streaks of Lebowski in his Flynn character and the young Jeff Bridges actually looked pretty good, except for his weird mouth. And there was that interesting little Cillian Murphy cameo; obviously the setup for a possible sequel.

Everybody's fine - 6/10
It was ok, just seemed like a very good cast with an average script and an average screenplay.
Red -7/10
"Shoot 'Em Up" meets "Ocean's 11", pretty funky film.
And Oh God John Malkovich, just hilarious every time I watch him. I wish he was my uncle.

Just like the transporter, only the transporter was so over the top and action packed that it was fun. This one took it self waaaaay too serious.

I was being generous with that 5/10.
If you dont like simple minded action movies, this is easily a 3/10 (maybe even lower)
