Nothing more then a PR stunt. He thought it was good that's why he made it that way and released it.
What annoys me the most about Transformers is that they tried to make it more for kids (like the one secret agent that lost his pants and his goofy acting) rather than folks that actually grew up with Transformers. Then adding more adult themes at the same time just made it look stupid. The first film tried to cater to too many tastes at one time and the same was with the second.
