Yeah, the whole situation is funny to watch. Artsy hipster fags moved to Brooklyn because the rent was cheap and it was 'more real'. Now those artsy hipster fags have grown up some, realized that being poor sucks, and they're turning into the yuppies they claimed to despise. Now they want 'open space' and other shit that's just gonna jack up property values and turn their neighborhoods into what they claimed to hate: the yuppieness of lower Manhattan. It's... amusing.13/f/taiwan wrote:

came in here thinking it was a discussion about reagan. my bad
reagan sucked. wasn't responsible for the downfall of the USSR. Tried to back retarded social policy. Increased deregulation that played a part in at least one sector crashing, and decreased competition/rate hikes in other sectors.

you forgot, introducing the right wing to the zealot christians - they approached carter first, but he didn't want to be beholden to them, so they went to reagans camp. who welcomed them with open arms, and now they're entrenched into conservatism.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

the same thing is happening in east-berlin (after the wall fell downs, lots of huge and amazing buildings... cheap). it's actually really good, though, as far as arts and culture go. pretty much all the best european electronic music and stuff comes out of there. so it's not all pretentious douches running blogs. these guys have got to get on the housing ladder somehow - and why not have some fun in the process? i think you're being over serious about 'hipster fags'. although maybe it's different in the us. literally here in europe everyone is going international to live in berlin... and that involves an entire different language. interesting.Jay wrote:

I dunno. I think the best way I can describe them is twenty somethings lost soul who believe groupthink will help them find their path. This, while denying their overriding desire to conform by masquerading as individualists. They're the people that still haven't gotten past the awkward teenager stage in their life.
Generally reviled for the simple fact that they descend on anything 'cool' like a plague of locusts and discard and destroy the very things they claimed to revere. To me it's just celebration of mediocrity by people who don't know how to create greatness. Because they can't rise, they mock. They tear things down to their own level rather than compete and face failure.
This is, of course, my own woefully subjective stereotype of them, but I think it's fairly accurate for a large portion of 'hipsters'.

Pretty well sums up how he was seen in the rest of the world.

Not so sure about that. Carter ran as a born again christian and vehemently went after the relious vote.burnzz wrote:

Reagan was a decent man with some big ideas who did well when he ignored his speechwriters and stepped away from the vampires in the RNC who were trying to suck his blood.
I'm not sure he was an economic genius however.

Don't the top 5% have more then 50% of the wealth or money in this country?
The government is responsible for our infrastructure, that's a laugh. Our country is falling apart and no way a first world country anymore. But lets go build an other country cause it fixed our economy after wwII
Also those Brooklyn hipsters live off of there parents. They mostly come from money and don't really have to worry about a real job.
F Reagan, I really want to know what lowing and John think is going right in this country? We have more collage students getting out of schools with debt they can't pay off and ending up unemployed or at McDonald's. Our infrastructure is falling apart which I know effects those two. It's really difficult to find a job that offers a live-able wage considering that the cost of living has doubled if not triples since I've gotten out of High School. So I don't understand how the trickle down effect actually works? The companies that are getting the investment money don't have an interest in the population only in turning a profit for the investor so when we have alot more employees then jobs they can start laying off and highering at 10-20k under what they're paying now.
John I'm really very interested in how many hours your going to be working for that income, also 200k is middle class not rich in your area.

I've been reading about the Reagan years and looking at the economic data, some of his foreign policy decisions, and social policy and it seems Reagan was pretty shitty.
So could anyone here actually explain to me, in your own words and not links and copy paste, why Reagan was a great president or ''zomg best President since Lincoln!!111" as a lot people hold him up to be. Because it seems to me old people have an awfully rose tinted view of Reagan and his presidency. I seriously think once everyone from the Reagan years finally die off in the next 100 years and people objectively study the period, Reagan is going to seem like a pretty lousy president.
So yeah, sell me the Reagan years.
You can't merely say, "he was shitty, now explain to me in detail what made him so great".
THe country prospered under Reagan, his foreign policy was, he was not taking any shit from anyone, and his social policy was NOT to support the leeching class. SO basically, if you worked for a living, you prospered. If you were a leech, you would say he was "shitty". If you were a liberal you hated him if you were a conservative, you loved him. If you were Libya or France or USSR, you hated him, if you enjoyed watching the Berlin Wall come crashing down, you loved him. All a point of perspective.
And above your tomb, the stars will belong to us.
