Yeah they're pretty much in a terrible location, there has been lots of fighting in and over french territory. Lots and lots of people vote the UK but I can't see how that is possible. The country is quite comfortably isolated really. France has fought against pretty much everyone at its borders. Spain, Germany, England, Italy and (then) Netherlands+Belgium, plus hundreds of colonial wars, and the place being a important theater in both world wars.
