If you can get past its weaknesses compared to 2001, it isn't really that bad of a film. I still have to wonder if they'll ever film 2061 or 3001.
Even without comparing them, 2010 is still shit imo. What´s with all the wizardy nonsense the Starchild does back on Earth? Why the subplot with USA/Russia going to war? And HAL? His role was so minor, they could have replaced him with a calculator and it wouldn´t have made a difference.
Did you read the books?
No, I want to at some point in the future though. Are they good?

Enjoyed all four. #3 was the slowest, but still decent.

Total ripoff of Training Day.

Harry Potter 7 Part 1 - 7ish/10

Felt about average, but it could be due to the fact that the previous movies were spinning off in different directors' focus. Not saying it's bad, but it still suffers a bit from setting up part 2 and lacking its own conclusion.

Tiger and Dragon

What a fantastic movie. Visually stunning, great storytelling. One of my all time favorites!

New Simpsons Episode:

The Great Simpsina - 7/10

Average by the show's standards, which is why I can't rate it down any further. What I can gripe about is this:

Spoiler (highlight to read):
Lisa is pretty much an illusionist magician's prodigy apprentice now. When, if ever, will the show reference this new fact? I'll tell you: never. Nothing evolves, nothing changes, it's all trapped in fucking limbo.

So yeah, I usually don't bother with it anymore, but this episode looked like it could have been neat. Too bad the show will drop it and never pick it back up.

I couldn't help giggle when they talked about ping as some sort of naughty word.

"Oh yeah... the ping, people on the outside have been talking about that"

Bale reminded me of my friends wigger rapper brother, head bobbing and all. They both fake the role of chav brilliantly. Story was great, Wahlberg was disappointingly boring and Amy Adams made herself even less hot (didn't know that was possible) by turning herself into a gold digging gutter snipe.

I think the real problem with this movie is that I've actually known way too many people like this. It wasn't a magical trip to a world I've never experienced, it was Tuesday as a kid (sans the boxing). I'm sure it's a jolly good time for those that have lived sheltered lives and who have no real emotional connection to shit like crack addiction. Too close to home for me.

And I gave it an 8 simply because the acting was brilliant even if the story made me uncomfortable.

Yeah "I teacbagged that motherfucker"

It's like they are trying to get as much gaming culture in there as possible, without actually adding to the story. I'm surprised they called the kid a cheater rather than a hacker tbh.

I think Wahlberg's problem must've been that his character was a bit boring to begin with.

If it did I would say that's an argument for it being really good.

I guess so. If being reminded of your crackhead ex-con uncle can be considered 'really good'.

Contact
When Dr. Ellie Arroway (Jodie Foster) hears a signal being broadcast from outer space, the race is on to interpret humanity's first contact with alien intelligence in this adaptation of Carl Sagan's thoughtful novel about the divide between science and religion.
Pretty much a classic at this point. For those rare few who haven't seen the film, it explores the (apparent) divide between religion and science. There is a sweet irony in the end of the film, but I won't give it away . The eccentric character that funds the project and helps decode the signal was way over the top. We get it ffs. And it's incredibly hard for me to believe that a machine as elaborate as the one they built could be done so quickly.. But really, if you can manage to put those things aside it's an interesting exploration of faith and it's relationship with science.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
At the end of the movie they had the viewer on the brink of questioning if the experience really happened. I remember thinking perhaps it was simply a vision that we saw, and then... "The fact that it recorded static isn't what interests me... .. What interests me is that it recorded approximately eighteen hours of it." That. Was. Awesome.
