seems like a defect driver w/ the XTX... did u use official or 3rd party? coz omega drivers are pretty awsome from what ive heard
Tried official 6.4, tried latest 6.3 based omega driver.
Official 6.2 has none of these problems.
Official 6.2 has none of these problems.
Like I said, if I have these problems with the Powercolor too then i'll buy another 7900GTX. (But not the same BFG one)
Got the Powercolor X1900XTX sitting next to me, when I get home i'll plug it in and see if I get the flickering etc.
Update time.
Same thing, perhaps the card series has problems with my monitor or something.
Either way, going to RMA this one too. Time for a new card. A 7900 GTX.
Again.
EDIT:
Here's a recap for anyone interested in this. (I could write a book about this)
I bought a BFG 512MB GeForce 7900 GTX OC, I got artifacts in lots of games. From texture corruption to spiking in 3d objects.
I RMA'd that, and got a Sapphire X1900XTX. In the 6.4 drivers I get a corrupted display for about 5 seconds before the windows login window and a really annoying flickering. If I use the 6.3 drivers the corrupted display doesn't appear but the flickering persists.
However if I use the 6.2 drivers none of these problems are present.
I have RMA'd the Sapphire and gotten a Powercolor X1900XTX. EXACT same problems. This card series doesn't seem to want to play nice with my monitor.
I'm going to RMA this one and order a 7900 GTX.
So, how many people can say they've had FOUR of the best cards on the market?

Yeah how about you do some research and try and figure out what is wrong with your computer, there can't be anything wrong with the cards because you have had 4, it has to be something in your computer doing this, but rma for a leadtek gtx or an asus
Hmm, have you bothered reading the entirety of this?.ACB|_Cutthroat1 wrote:

I did loads of research, the BFG was a HARDWARE PROBLEM that was verified by ebuyer.
The X1900XTX flicker seems to happen on certain combinations of monitors and hardware, there is NO known fix. I thought that perhaps it may be just certain revisions of the chips, so I took a slight risk and ordered a different maker over the old. (from Sapphire to Powercolor. If you want i'll dig up all the urls I found talking about this issue.)
Notice that by 4 I mean the next card I get will be my fourth card. (which I haven't yet gotten)
The BFG 7900GTX had no flickering of anysort, just a faulty GPU. (totally different problem from the X1900XTX)
if you go with a bfg 7900gtx you will be fine...i'll put money down that says you won't get two faulty cards from bfg, not only that they have one of the best (if not the best) customer service reputation of all video card manufacturers...there's no better way to go than nvidia and bfg, atleast not right now...
*sigh*

Gainward Bliss 7900GTX.
No way in hell is it any kind of overheating, the case is open, the window is open and the temperature inside the room is 16C.
Looking up on Google the entire 7900 series seems to suffer from artifact problems.
I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't.
If I go with a 7900GTX i'm getting artifacting, if I go with a X1900XTX I get driver problems.
So far BF2 is the only game that has gotten problems on this card. Not noticed any problems in Quake 4 or Kotor yet.

Yeah, this is getting infuriating though.beerface702 wrote:

That's my fourth bloody card, I swear someone out there is going "Ah, Mr. Casey ordered a graphics card.. send him the faulty one."
Will RMA it tomorrow.
I'll order another BFG but this time rather than playing with it at the beginning with the default OC settings i'll underclock it immediately to the nvidia defaults for the 7900GTX series.

What drivers are you using for the x1900xtx? I started using the 6.2, and have had good luck with them, except my MB splash screen was all funky colors. What MB are you using, and what BIOS version are you running for it.? I flashed my BIOS to a newer version, and it fixed my problem. You have other issues besides the cards, no way in hell you got 3 bad Nvidia cards.EvilMonkeySlayer wrote:

get a ledtek, they make quality cards i tells ya
Well, it's two faulty nvidia cards and two what I believe incompatibility issues with the X1900XTX series card.psychotoxic187 wrote:

The first one, i'd been playing games using the default overclocked 7900GTX from BFG, when I started noticing artifacts, texture corruption etc in games. I underclocked it but I still got the problems.
With the X1900XTX series if I used the 6.2 drivers everything was good, the moment I used the 6.3 or 6.4 drivers i'd get an infuriatingly annoying screen flicker that wouldn't go away no matter what settings I changed.
Plus with the 6.4 drivers I also got a weird corrupt display on driver initialisation. (see http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~mccasey/_RW_0130.jpg)
The motherboard is a Lanparty UT NF4 SLI-D. Latest bios too.
One mention of curiousity, if I force enable anti-aliasing etc in Half-Life 2 then I get artifacts. However i've as yet to get anything in Quake 4 or Kotor.
This isn't nearly as bad artifacting as with the BFG, it seems to be very minor occasional stuff. Whereas with the BFG after quitting a game windows would be unusable requiring a reboot.
EDIT:
.ACB|_Cutthroat1 do you recommend this?
I was thinking of just getting the same BFG card as before but underclocking it the moment i'm in windows and maybe seeing if there is a newer videocard bios and updating it.

Hmmm do you have any files from recent drivers left on your PC? Just use the 6.2 drivers, nothing wrong with them, they work fine for me. Only problem I have with the x1900xtx is it runs hot as hell. I tried the Arctic cooling Accelero 2, and the Zalman vf-900, and both give me the same results, I peek out at 85C, thinking about trying water cooling next. If it's only happening in BF2, maybe you have a corrupt file in the BF2 directory.
the only reason u get those texture problems is that ur graphics card is simply overheating, i got the same problems with my card ( BFG GEforce 7900gtx oc) so i tokkk the side off my computer and now i dnt get any problems with it.
sorry if this has already been sed but i dint read all the pages in the thread

Joy, started encountering problems in Quake 4 too now.

I guess the only solution is to change your motherboard, your slot on the motherboard might have some problem. I don't think it is the card's problem, especially if this is your fifth card.
Id would say ur video card is fuct. try reloading the drivers.EvilMonkeySlayer wrote:

does it do that from the start or does it seem like it only does it after the card warms up?
have u checked the temp of the card while playing a game?
this is the 5th card that has this problem, more or less its the mobo's pci-e slot being fuckedIBKCKNURASS wrote:

It is a sli motherboard, I could try putting the card in another PCI-E slot.
The curious thing is this, the degrading of graphics quality has been gradual. At first everything was ok, if I played for hours nothing would be wrong. Only now a few days after have things started getting worse again.
Surely if it was the motherboard i'd be having these problems from the get go?
On the ATI based cards there was no artifacting etc, just a very annoying flicker with the 6.3 and 6.4 catalyst drivers. If I used the 6.2 drivers everything was ok.
The ones i've had serious problems with were the 7900's, the ATI cards were just goddamn driver annoyances.
This makes for interesting reading, as the issues described are pretty much identical to what i've encountered with the 7900GTX series.
EDIT: Right, to hell with nvidia. I may get issues with the X1900XTX series with the 6.3 and 6.4 drivers but I get no problems at all with the 6.2 drivers.
I'm going to go with the X1900XTX and use the 6.2 drivers.
Hopefully a future catalyst release will fix the flickering. But like I said, I never got any artifacts etc with the ATI cards.

Noob to these forums, thought I would reply to this since I had the exact same artifacting in BF2 with my BFGTech 6800GT.EvilMonkeySlayer wrote:

First off if you have tried 4 combos and they all have problems then it is time to look elswhere in your system. You are going to find problems with any card if you google it. But after this many hardware combos, you should have found something that worked by now if there were no other problems with your system.
I had this artifacting after installing 3rd party optimized drivers and enabling auto overclocking where it monitors the temperature and downclocks as appropriate. Now I didn't have any frame issues but did have that spike arrtifacting identical to what you have. After installing the newest stock forceware drivers which didn't have that overclock option, the problem vanished.
One problem that creeps its head up is leftover garbage when installing/uninstalling drivers. Use Driver Cleaner Pro which can be found at driverheaven.net. Make sure to follow the directions to the letter. Then reinstall the drivers. You would be really amazed at the bizzare behavior that can happen when drivers are not properly cleaned out of a system. 9/10 times this will fix most video card problems.
If there are still issues, I always format the system and run the game up with a fresh OS and all new drivers. This will fix you up if the above failed most of the time. If there are still problems, then it is time to remove sticks of ram and run it up, possibly slave in a CPU and by process of elimination figure out what it going on.
On a side note, if you have a multi fan case with inlet and exhaust fans, opening the side of the case actually inhibits proper airflow through the case and decreases the cooling capacity.
I just kinda quickly scanned this thread and may have missed a few things, so if I repeated any advice that was given here, I apologize.
Good luck, hope this helps. I know what a bummer it can be when you pay top dollar for new upgrades to your rig and they don't work properly.

Just a note, the problems with the X1900XTX's were identical and minor. However, because of the costs involved I wanted nothing less than perfection.
The 7900GTX problems are serious ones that I believe are gpu/video ram problems. Been reading up and the 7900 series seems to have suffered numerous problems.
My problems with the X1900XTX's are I believe a compatibility issue between my monitor and the X1900XTX.
I'll be going back to them and using the 6.2 Catalysts until the flickering issues are fixed in a newer driver release.
