also, when you decide to have sex, you basically agree to the fact that your kid has a chance of a life like this.  if for some reason you aren't prepared for it, either mentally or physically, you shouldn't have had sex in the first place

no it doesn't.  you're a selfish asshole if you feel like your child isn't worthy of a life just because of a disability.  what if he had some complications after he was born?  for example, he had trouble breathing and was brain damaged after that?  now what do you do?  "accidentally" kill him for his own good because you don't want him to suffer for the rest of his life?
When they get old enough to decide for them selves, I support euthanasia too.

we're all "a bunch of cells".  besides, do you have 100% proof that a fetus is not a person until the moment they are born?  if not, we can't take the risk.  sorry.

oh really?  so all the people suffering from depression and suicide thoughts should just be able to kill themselves even when their judgement is clearly being affected by their condition?

You can't have an abortion up until the moment the baby is born. There is a time limit before it is not allowed.

Actually, I find it highly offensive.

Though my son's situation and the Palins' situation are completely different.

Down Syndrome isn't the type of situation that should call for an abortion, IMO. That child can life a full and fruitful life, despite their mental challenges. Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome) has a broad spectrum of problems, however, so it would still be a personal decision.
I got to say, I have a lot of respect for people who keep and raise a kid with downs or any other severe mental disability. I don't think I could handle it, to tell you the truth the possibility of being confronted with it absolutely terrifies me.

And what if he had some kind of disability where he would be a mute vegetable for his entire life, and you are not the gazillionire it would take to raise a child like that. The child is sentanced to a lifetime of pain and misery just to suit your moral high ground? There are more severe things that could go wrong than a slight mental disability or a extra finger.

Pope John Paul II wrote:

The sick person in a 'vegetative state', awaiting recovery or a natural end, still has the right to basic health care (nutrition, hydration, cleanliness, warmth, etc.), and to the prevention of complications related to his confinement to bed. He also has the right to appropriate rehabilitative care and to be monitored for clinical signs of eventual recovery.
It's the Pope, who gives a fuck?

There's a difference between killing yourself on a whim and killing yourself after careful contemplation for a few days.

There should be a legal framework for euthanasia that includes counseling.

I feel the same way, but I would never kill a baby.

Why is the rape point continually made? Rape victims do not justify everybody else getting abortions. I don't see why everyone feels the need to constantly state it. Why do you believe abortion is justified when it was consentual and they just don't want to take responsibility for their actions?

Nobody has the right to tell someone else to keep a baby, ofcourse there are extreme examples of people having multiple abortions but it's not compassionate to force a kid into the world who's not wanted. That's cruel, actually.

If a woman is raped I think the child will be the least of her mental problems. FFS she was RAPED. She can put the kid up for adoption.

it's a fucking unconcious fetus, dry your eyes. It isn't a "cute baby", it isn't a "member of society', it's a damn fetus.

My parents hated me and I'm still happy to live. I don't think any individual's potential for a happy life should be decided by somebody else. Sure, I wouldn't have experienced life so I wouldn't know what I'd be missing, but none the less, it a spooky thought that nowadays its considered okay to to give other people power over others lives just because they haven't fully developed yet.

Of course, if by "keep a baby" you mean raise it, then I agree absolutely.

Because if you made abortions illegal, those completely innocent people would be the ones suffering. They're not going to make it illegal except under certain circumstances, because then incidents of 'rape' would skyrocket.

Well, in Roe vs Wade, the woman had faked rape to try to get an abortion, which ultimately failed because there was no evidence of rape. Her inability to lie about it was the reason that case even came to be.

Not everyone is suicidal over a bad upbringing(nor does every adoption turn out bad), to just assume it will be and kill it anyways is obscene.
