Kinda cool, the whole millions of people going around ignoring everyone around them is one of the reasons I can't stand cities.
Riding the train during rush hour is such an assault to a sleep deprived head (a.k.a. all the population of NYC) that interacting with anyone is a chore. Sometimes bumping into a friend on the train bothers me. I just want to zone out in my headphones.

Why? The amount of possible social interactions that we face on a daily basis is staggering. That shit's tiring man. If I'm on the subway or the train I don't want to be hassled. Same goes for walking down the street. It's about personal space and privacy. Is it for everyone? Absolutely not. But I would be pissed off if I ran into a joker with a microphone who wouldn't leave me alone.Nic wrote:

thats you, thats me.
yeah id prefer not to be harassed on the subway or on the train. asking for directions/help - no problem. but personal questions from random strangers? no thanks.
if you lived in a big city youd probably feel the same way

probably, and I get it, but doesn't mean I like being around it. Much prefer smaller town life at the moment.
I want the 3 minutes I spent watching that video back.

You can have the best of both worlds.
Live in a wealthy suburb of a major city, and when you feel the urge to go somewhere more exciting, take the subway to get to whatever place you want to hang out.
For example, Arlington, VA serves this purpose quite well. There's plenty to do there, and you can take the subway to DC.
Granted, Arlington is pretty expensive.
Generally speaking, the people in Arlington seem somewhat friendly, and while the subways can be maddeningly crowded at times, it's worth dealing with to get to some of the nicer spots in DC.
