Unlike Little Baby Jesus, I know shit all about the latest components, the last time I built a PC was about 6 years ago. Having got my 2nd pay rise of the year ive decided I have no excuse not to finally invest in a new PC.

Budget is around £700-800, it doesn't need to be the best PC components money can buy, I just want to be able to play SC2, Diablo III, Bf3, Crysis. It would be good if its got room to upgrade as well. Ive got a mouse and keyboard but no monitor. I was thinking if I can afford it to have a SSD for windows and a regular 1-2TB hd for the rest. Any ideas what I could get within that?

Is there anything you can rescue from your old computer? DVD drives? PSU? Case?

or are you planing on using it as a secondary computer?

Don't even have it anymore, been using a laptop for the last 5 years. So its pretty much a completely new build.

Righteee hoooo.

Here's a good starting point.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … ubcat=1802 - £450

I know fuck all about cases though.

GFX card... go with a 6850/6870 or 560?

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … ubcat=1279 - HDD - £40

Monitor... samsung probably.
for a fatty you're a serious intellectual lightweight.

Unfortunately I don't think you'll get a SSD in with that budget. But they are easy to add later so I'd say skip the SSD for now and then later down the track when you have some more money (and SSDs will be even cheaper) grab one then. Otherwise you will be sacrificing on motherboard/processor etc and those things are obviously much harder/more expensive to upgrade.

Why should he pay extra for a pre overclocked processor combo when he could easily do it himself?
Something like this would be a much better idea, he could even add an aftermarket heatsink and it would still be cheaper:

have fun explaining to Intel that you deserve a replacement i5 because you completely and utterly fried every mg of silicon in the chip by pumping 2.0vcore through it.

if you are retarded enough to break a modern CPU by doing a normal-scale overclock, then you don't deserve your money back lol.

srs note:
Something like this comes to £805.91 including VAT.
I'm a bit tired, so someone may want to review this.

Looks pretty good to me but I would save some money and just go for a Samsung F3 1TB instead of the WD Black.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … =HD-082-SA

SSDs are easy to add later so I would go with something like this, save up a little money and buy an SSD down the track because it's not worth getting a SSD now and skimping on mobo, cpu video card etc.

I likes WD blacks never had a problem with them. Never used a F3.

I've got 5 F3's and have never had a problem with them. The WD Blacks are definitely good but not worth ~£25 more (in my opinion).

If they are that much cheaper, he could pick one up and afford a better cooler while still being in budget.

I have built 3 computers and never needed an aftermarket fan, cases come with them.

That cpu heatsink does not come with a fan however. And no you will not need more fans for that case, unless you start adding more cards and Hdds etc.

worth paying an extra £40 for though. What difference do the brands actually make? They are the same hardware underneath no?

Depends if it is a reference card or not. If you dont want to spend the extra 40, dont.
