So the GTX 590 came out, and it trades blows in games with the 6990, perhaps being slightly behind, due to no option of auto-OC'ing to 2x580s, where the 6990 has the option to auto-OC to 2x6970s. This time, though, ATi is the power-hungry guy (probably because of the overclock) and while they both have similar temperatures, ATi's fan is significantly louder.
Seems like they've swapped places. Last gen, GTX 480 was slightly faster, a lot hotter, a lot more power hungry, and a lot louder than the 5870, which was a bit slower, but much more civil on every other front.
