Until a god can be scientifically ruled out, there is most likely still going to be religion around, and even then there would still be hangers-on for awhile.
And on that subject, this was depressing to read;Shocking wrote:
Religious books are great historical records though, I've been doing a lot of reading on Mesopotamian civilisations lately and the Bible makes a lot of references to stuff that happened and existed 8-6000 years ago. All the city states back then had their own gods, our dear Yahweh simply came out on top because all the other cultures in the area got exterminated. Knowing about it makes it all the more strange that people follow the strife in between different cities that existed nearly 10.000 years ago as if there were any higher purpose to it.
US forces under the command of General James T. Conway of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force were criticized for building the military base "Camp Alpha", comprising among other facilities a helipad, on ancient Babylonian ruins following the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
US Marines in front of the rebuilt ruins of Babylon, 2003.
US forces have occupied the site for some time and have caused irreparable damage to the archaeological record. In a report of the British Museum's Near East department, Dr. John Curtis describes how parts of the archaeological site were levelled to create a landing area for helicopters, and parking lots for heavy vehicles. Curtis wrote that the occupation forces
"caused substantial damage to the Ishtar Gate, one of the most famous monuments from antiquity [...] US military vehicles crushed 2,600-year-old brick pavements, archaeological fragments were scattered across the site, more than 12 trenches were driven into ancient deposits and military earth-moving projects contaminated the site for future generations of scientists [...] Add to all that the damage caused to nine of the moulded brick figures of dragons in the Ishtar Gate by soldiers trying to remove the bricks from the wall."

That was considerate of them.
Not to mention that this;
Has been riddled with bullets and damaged by bombs through the wars. Thankfully that thing is a bit too large and sturdy to bulldoze over.
While I'm a proponent for both wars I find it strange how we could justify trying to protect our culture yet trample all over its very origins in the process, you'd think they would try to preserve our history a little better than that.

Based on the only marine I know, I'd expect them to make a derogatory remark about my sexuality, and then go fly a commercial airliner whilst drunk.Jay wrote:

You don't even have to be cultured to recognize that that gigantic thing is not some Saddam playground, at the very least an OC should recognize historical sites when they're staring him in the face.Jay wrote:

That's the problem though: You can neither scientifically prove nor disprove a God.Nic wrote:

This is known to me at this time. However you cannot say what the future holds, just what it is most likely to hold. Pretty sure that it won't be proved or disproved anytime soon.globefish23 wrote:

Neighbors, no one loves you like he loves you,
And no one cares like he cares.
Neighbors, let us join today in the holy love of God and money,
Because neighbors, no one loves you like He loves you.
And what better way to show your love than to dig deep into your pockets.
Dig real deep, until it hurts. Alleviate your guilt,
Free yourself once again, because he gave to you, brothers and sisters.
Please give a 10, 25, or 50 dollar tax-deductible donation,
And I assure you your modest pledge will be used to censor TV and radio,
Ban questionable books, and contribute to many other Godly services.
No longer will young Christian Americans hedonistically indulge
In masochistic submission to rhythmic music, for with your monetary support,
There is no end to what we can achieve in this country.
The voice of God is government. The voice of God is government.
The voice of God is government. In God we trust, sinners repent!

Can't you see what we believe in, all our thoughts, all our reasons,
Pursuit of life and liberty and happiness we cannot see?
Speak of truth with a mighty voice, but politics are your real choice.
Hire men to change the law, protect and serve with one small flaw.
Voice of God is government. The voice of God is government.
Voice of God is government. In God we trust, sinners repent!
If we shun God and Jesus Christ, religious love is sacrifice.
Love for God is shown in cash, the love they send is mailbox trash.
With every pamphlet we receive, more money asked for Godly needs.
Build a million dollar church, with money spent on God's research.
Voice of God is government. The voice of God is government.
Voice of God is government. In God we trust, sinners repent!
On late night TV, God can heal, a certain force you cannot feel.
Love for money in God's name, religion's now a TV game!
Build a million dollar church, with money spent on God's research.

Voice of God is government. The voice of God is government.
