Dunno, just Israel seems a pretty new country and it's hardly the most stable of places. Not really a western success story.

Trade is invariably linked to systems of government, standard of living and foreign policy platforms. There's a very solid argument that most of the action the US has taken from a foreign policy standpoint is in regards to opening up markets, protecting resources and other trade-related reasons. You can't have it both ways my friend.

I would think that, if that was true, we'd spend less on the military and there would be more resistance to our interventionism via protests.
