It's not so surprising. The only experience I have with Star Wars is playing the Lego games. Never really interested me that much tbh.

Generational shift, I guess. Just don't knock it because of Jar Jar Binks. 4, 5 and 6 are still great.

Restrepo 8/10.

https://www.firstpersonarts.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/restrepo2.jpg

Documentary about a Platoon in the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan. 15 Months there and came under contact every day. Strongly recommend for any military enthusiast. Especially you shifty, see what life in the marines is like outside of propaganda, video games and movies.

Easy A 8/10

https://www.prlog.org/10935193-easy-poster-2-535x684.jpg

Great movie about a high school girl who's life gets turned upside down by doing a little favour for a friend. I felt really attached to the family as their sense of humour was exactly the same as my family's sens of humour. Shift would like this one since he has a boner for Emma Stone, and this is the first movie I actually found her attractive in, so he should bust a nut.

The other Guys 6/10

https://www.comingsoon.net/gallery/53244/The_Other_Guys_12.jpg

Maybe I wasn't really in the mind frame to appreciate the scope of humour the first time I watched it. It had its funny parts, but for the majority of the time it was merely entertaining, not humourous. Not a movie to avoid, but not a movie to track down and chuck in your "Best movies EVAR" shelf.

The haunting in Connecticut 8/10

https://www.impawards.com/2009/posters/haunting_in_connecticut.jpg

First of all I hate ghost movies. Despise them, yet I did appreciate and somewhat enjoy this movie. It plays with a lot of emotions, the main character acts very well in the little details, the things that a lot of actors over act. He is very convincing. The climax does somewhat pull on the heart strings as another layer of the movie unfolds and everything becomes clear. Very good movie. Not a cheesy horror at all.

Except for when it says based on a true story. The only true part of the story was that it was based on a house. In Connecticut.

Grosse Pointe Blank - 7/10

Oh yes, what a gem, not sure how many of these 90's classics I have left unseen now. Awesome soundtrack, clever, funny and easy to watch, John Cusack in his prime

Agreed. I found Armadillo better. Restrepo was lacking something.

It was the way it was filmed.
They were too close on the soldiers and all you could see when they made contact was them shooting. In armadillo (I also found it better) you actually saw the enemy they fought.

I think that was part of the concept. It portraied the impact the fighting had on the inter- and intraindividual behaviour of the unit. Yet I felt it lacked especially in that regard. Part of that comes from the limitations of the chosen technique, using no voice over or commentary. And more than once I thought what a bunch of ignorant meatheads the guys are, which according to interviews with the author I read wasn´t the goal.

I often have that idea with American soldiers. it works for movies, but to see them be, what almost looks as unprofessional, in a real war in a documentary just doesn't make it work.

That stuff is becoming so common nowadays. I've listend to more than one unmarried consultant talk about how they like to go to Bangkok to 'relax' and that they try to go at least a few times per year.

oh. the original, looking back, is pretty cheesy. but at the time there were no effects like those in any movies.
i stood in line for the release of the original 3, but they waited too long for the last 3 . . .

I had never seen a Star Wars movie until this year. I decided to watch all six with Menzo (in saga order, so 1,2,3,4...) So far we've seen 4. And I must say that the old one was a lot more fun to watch than those new 3. They felt like a very generic sci-fi flick and the old one felt sort of original i guess.

Also: Now watching Back to the future trilogy, finished 1 last night and now watching 2.
