with each repeat listen, actress's two LP's (hazyville & splazsh) just keep getting better and better. so many layers! so much texture!

real masterclass in production.

musique concrete... pop sensibility... r&b grooves... experimental left-field weirdness... bass depths...

has it all, really

can i scrobble from 2 different media players on my computer?  I use WMP but I also have itunes installed...do I have to switch between the two or can I have them both scrobble?

they'll both scrobble.  since both use the external scrobbler only one will scrobble at the same time

do i have to set up itunes to scrobble or will the scrobbler pick it up automatically?

it should pick it up automatically when you installed it.  if not Tools > Plugins and install the itunes/wmp one.  And if wmp crashes it usually disables it so you have to go into the plugins in its properties and enable it there as well

I'm excited to see what this looks like when its fully released: http://tomahawk-player.org/?q=about

Tomahawk was born out of frustration... frustration that the most widely used media players were designed to solve problems of a different era. No longer do we need desktop music players built 10 years ago that jam in CD ripping, label makers, device syncing, into a massive wad of code that takes minutes to even launch. Freed from the shackles of having to worry about supporting legacy use cases, we were able to focus on solving a new set of problems and capitalizing on a new set of opportunities. We thought... "there has to be a better way".

Why can't I easily listen to all the music I have scattered across multiple computers, at multiple locations, from a single interface?
Why can I stream my home iTunes library to my laptop when I am at home, but I can't when I am somewhere else?"
Conversely, how come I can stream my co-worker's iTunes library when we are both at the office, but only if we are on the same wireless network (or subnet)?
When I am reading a website that talks about a song, and I own that song, why can't I play my copy directly from that page?
Why can't I subscribe to, and import, playlist metadata from all over the web - and then have that resolve against any/all songs that I have access to?
Why do I have to listen to songs I have on my hard drive, and songs from services I subscribe to, in totally different user experience silos?
If I am a music subscription service provider, why do I need to incur the costs of streaming you content you already have locally?

From the seed of Playdar springs Tomahawk - a new breed of media player... totally open-source, extensible & fundamentally designed to solve today's problems.
If it actually works that well it could be pretty amazing.

Streaming home library on the go easily?  Music spread across multiple computers?  Music from last.fm, grooveshark, spotify, etc all in one place? Streaming music from roommates?  It seems like it could be pretty cool and useful.

i have literally, still, never wanted an audio player beyond the functions of itunes. they seem to mostly be bullshit and aesthetics. if i can navigate and play through a 500Gb library located over 3 internal drives and 4 external drives, with all file-formats, using itunes... i don't exactly know what the fuck you guys are doing to want 'more'.

oh and the first 'want' on that list is exactly a core-feature of itunes... home sharing? wireless libraries? i share between my windows itunes library and my macbook osx library effortlessly from anywhere in the house.

I don't have a device to stream with. I just have a normal iPod.

Winston_Churchill wrote:

My PC and laptop's libraries are already sync'd using Windows. But I rarely use my laptop for listening to music anyhow.

Winston_Churchill wrote:

Out of those things, I only use last.fm. I like using the last.fm application for streaming. I've tried players that attempt to integrate last.fm's features and have never liked it.

Their music sucks / they don't have any / I have all of it anyhow.

i have computers in different places... itunes cant even scan folders for new items, thats a pretty huge flaw in it.  plus i use windows and itunes is laggy as fuck on it, plus its quite ugly.  itunes cant play flac... itunes cant integrate last.fm.  itunes cant integrate any of those services.  itunes cant auto-tag music.  you cant stream your itunes (and/or wmp) libraries when youre somewhere else other than on your network.  you really cant see the advantages of these features?

then its a different situation for you, liq   i know those are features i would use.  and i find last.fm integration in musicbee is quite nice, especially the auto-dj feature.

I can see the advantage for people who want those features ... but I don't want any of them.

Indeed.

though i dont know why anyone would say no to auto-tagging.  doing it manually is such a pain sometimes

i have a little client-server app called Subsonic that lets me stream my music from anywhere, anyway... and it's a tiny tiny process

no need to migrate media player

i retag everything before i import it to my library using mp3tag anyhow. you can pull data from discogs/musicbrainz if you like, so it's really no trouble

Zimmer has that set up on our server. Looks pretty damn nifty, but I haven't had a desire to use it.

we have subsonic on our server too, its pretty poor i find.  very slow and doesnt have good organization.  plus doesnt have full tag support

musicbee uses those same tagging features as mp3tag and i assume this would as well

so basically you have one program doing both of those and more...

There are massive improvement to 4.4, unfortunately I have no idea how to upgrade as the server seems to be missing a vital "Service" shutdown option. If I can't shutdown Subsonic I can't do the upgrade.

Subsonic is only slow on first load. If you're wanting to play music anywhere the streaming never stops due to speed, just some of the page loading can be annoying. But due to inline page loading, that doesn't really make a difference to playback.

doesn't appeal to me either. It's definitely a niche I would think.

Streaming doesn't appeal to many people unless the medium to which they are using is unlimited. I'm lucky in the sense that my ISP provides me with skyfm/DI Premium for free, and un-metered, so I listen to them all the time... If it wasn't unmetered, I wouldn't listen  to them at all...

At uni I only have 1GB of usage, so i'd NEVER stream.

The only thing I see useful is the tagging, but my music library is hardly expanding very quickly, and ever file I add, I make sure is of mostly 320, and then I tag it perfectly myself.

Although 95% of it these days is tagged perfectly anyway.
everything i write is a ramble and should not be taken seriously.... seriously.
