Oh in the US? New Orleans showed you "how they act" in situations no where near as desperate as those faced in Japan. Proud huh?

Nah, I said what I wanted to say. There's no point in arguing with lowing. He doesn't give a shit if he's right or wrong, he just wants attention.
So I take it you were not going to compare how the Japanese are reacting to a crisis far worse than anything New Orleans has faced, to that of New Orleans reaction? Or were just going to continue to deflect the discussion away from that and toward me?

lol Don't look now, but you are the one, and not me, that is dragging "lowing" into this. I want to talk about Japan and New Orleans.

OK so why do you think the people of New Orleans & Tokyo act so differently in a disaster?

So we're clear, I think it's a fair trade. I just understand and accept the consequences of that trade (in both directions).

Where does anyone state it's acceptable? That's the conclusion you draw out of it.

Your society is extremely individualistic, Japan puts emphasis on the collective, you don't have the same connection to the americans around you as the japanese have to the japanese around them. When stuff goes wrong, what do you think that will lead to? People do as they wish, and they don't take care of eachother either - they take care of themselves.

A nice simple answer to a direct question thank you. In a way I agree but I only really have direct knowledge of the Japanese situation because of direct family involvement. But westernised culture is take what you can for free or as little as you can & do as much as you can without getting caught.

you accept that rape, murder , looting and shooting emergency responders emulates personal responsibility and individualism? I gotta disagree, I think it is the opposite. Raping murdering looting and shooting cops, does not reflect personal responsibility and is not synonymous with individualism.

But that is just my opinion of course.

There are thousands of people in this country who define themselves as survivalists. They stockpile weapons, food etc, and fully expect to be wholly on their own if a disaster ever occurred. They've spent time mapping out their escape routes, where they will travel to etc. If the shit hit the fan, they would view other people as prey, because might makes right at the end of a barrel.

Are they the majority? No. But they're loud.

I just find it ironic when people that spend all their time touting their own personal individualism and their own abilities suddenly start crying and go 'why me?' when stuff goes wrong and no one wants to lend them a hand.

ummmm in the context of the behavior displayed in NO. he said this--------> "It means when shit goes wrong we look after ourselves".

Rape murder looting and shooting at cops and shit , is how New Orleans "looked after themselves".  How else could you take it?

Yeah, some would say they stockpile to prepare, because raping murder and looting to get what you want is not acceptable...but again, that is just my opinion, yours may be different.

nope, don't have any "survival" doomsday plans. I am not that ate up. Only thing I did prepare for is not living in New Orleans.

ffs lowing this is all about the collective identity of Japan, America has very little of that. You like all your freedoms, right? Well, they can get abused.

lol well what more do you want, AN ENTIRE NATION in crisis and there are no examples of anything that happened in New Orleans. You tell me, this is what I want to discuss. Not my personal survival plans for Armageddon

Family bonds and the local / national community has always been extremely important in Japan. Has it been in America? No, not at all.

Yeah I understand that, I believe the majority of the EU tries to balance inbetween the US individualism and the collectivism of cultures more to the east.

Again, FREEDOM is not a green light to rape murder and loot!! That is just not a viable argument.

Now you are discussing the issue.

Yes it has, I don't recall reading about looting raping and murdering and shooting emergency responders by any other part of the nation hit by Katrina.

I could be wrong however.

Do you feel like you're bound to a bigger community that you need to provide for? Has it been taught to you since boyhood that people ought to take care of eachother? You know that those dreadful welfare systems are a result of that mindset as well, right? People take care of eachother and it also means that many feel like they have responsibility to a bigger collective.

Do you have that? No. Does your new orleans looter feel like he has a responsibility to his community? No, just to himself. Does that open a door to taking advantage of someone else's misery? Yes.
