Muslims in the America aren’t cooperating enough with law enforcement to counter the radicalization of young followers by al-Qaeda-linked groups, said a House leader on terrorism issues, renewing debate about religion’s role in motivating extremists and what the United States can do without alienating the Islamic world.

Rep. Peter T. King, New York Republican, who is chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, asserted that al Qaeda terrorists are targeting Muslim youth in this country, previewing his hearing Thursday on the extent of the problem and the Muslim community’s response.

“The overwhelming majority of Muslims are outstanding Americans, but at this stage in our history there’s an effort … to radicalize elements within the Muslim community,” he said in an interview broadcast Sunday.

“It’s there, and that’s where the threat is coming from at this time,” Mr. King said.

Taking up Mr. King’s call for a national discussion, the White House sent President Obama’s deputy national security adviser, Denis McDonough, to a Northern Virginia mosque to speak late Sunday at an interfaith gathering about how the administration is dealing with domestic radicalization.

Does anyone else see this as a really inappropriate attempt to score political points? I think this is really going to alienate a lot of Muslims and will do more harm than any good that could come out of it.

This King guy, the one heading up the investigation into radical Muslims, was a PLO supporter. King responded "afaik the IRA isn't attacking the United States". What he's saying is if America isn't attacked, who gives a shit. King also said "It wasn't the policy of the IRA to attack citizens" .. help me out my British and Irish friends. Didn't the IRA plant bombs in pubs and other public gathering places? Aren't there link between the IRA and the PLO?

Peter T. King might be everything that is wrong with the Republican party. Pandering to the lowest common denominator. Shameful really.

i hate to give this topic traction.

Rep. King was an ardent IRA supporter, because his constituency was. whether you are pro-IRA or not, he pandered to his constituency.

In other words, a politician . . .

Spineless. Usually I am the first to squash the impulse to say this bunzy but ..That type of behavior is reminiscent of NAZI Germany. The NAZI's didn't simply plant the Jewish prejudice. It was already there, and they shaped their platform to unify the constituency via propaganda and policy.

The IRA certainly did attack civilians.
Catholic terrorists have killed ten times as many Brits as Islamic terrorists, why should Britain give a shit about AQ?

Are black Americans doing enough to counter the gangsta-isation of young blacks?
I bet they aren't.

Not sure what the blacks, the IRA or the PLO have to do with this but radical Islam is an issue, why should govts. not talk about it, recognize it, and try to counter it? OF course there is the argument that by doing so you will piss off Islam and increase terrorism, but how could that be? Islam is peaceful serene and tolerant, can it not stand up to criticism?
Shocking
sorry you feel that way

regardless of his credibility, Islamic radicalization in AMerica is a real fact and a real concern, I see no reason to bring up WHO mentions it, as a reason to not discuss it. Unless of course, you can not come up with a REAL reason to ignore it.

He's my districts rep. If you think he's bad you should see who the dems keep putting up against him.

At least he's not Caroline McCarthy.

Edit - oh, and this district also spawned Hannity and O'Reilly.
