Just learned about this the other day, and I rather like it. Basically, based on your location it knows sunrise/sunset and so it adjusts your screen brightness between night and day so that it always remains at a pleasant level. I have pretty ambient lights in my room, so once it gets dark my screen is especially bright. It's supposed to make it easier to sleep as well, because you haven't been subjecting yourself to such a bright light right before bed. It seems a bit brown at first, but you soon get used to it. Set it to change over an hour rather than 20s and you won't even notice it.

I've been using this for months, it's great. Makes your screen look nicer, and much easier on your eyes.

I saw this but I didn't really get it. I've never sat here and thought that my screen looks too bright.

I suppose I should try it out for a bit to see if I like it / it's noticeable ... but I have no reason to try it.

Also I'm not sure how much the sun actually contributes to the brightness of my room.

I used it for a little bit. Sometimes I would forget to turn it off (read: exit the program) since you can't disable it for more than an hour, before I played BFBC2 or any other game, and that annoyed me. I wish they would have an option to disable it permanently instead of only an hour or disable it when certain programs are launched.

spyder 3 is the standard, yes?
Intelligent Ambient Light Control
Utilizing an embedded high-precision sensor, Spyder3 automatically measures the ambient light within a room for a new level of precision calibration. Spyder3 provides you with options to change either your studio lighting or display profile if the ambient light changes. Maintaining a history log of lighting conditions, Spyder3 can intelligently discern true lighting changes from random fluctuations caused by studio flashes or shadows.

I'm pretty sure it disables itself if there's a full screen program running.

I've been using this for a while now, too. I'm so used to it that if I turn it off at night, it looks way too bright and blue/gray and weird, also hurts my eyes a little.

As far as the fullscreen program stuff goes, I've noticed it disable itself about half the time. Sometimes it disables, sometimes it doesn't, oh well. I don't mind either way.

Damn, I... had something for this

I tried it for about a week and got rid of it. The different hues were driving me insane. I have never thought 'man this is hurting my eyes/too bright' or anything like that so maybe my eyes are just too good.

Exact same situation here. If you don't do color sensitive work at night, I totally recommend this program!
