I don't have twitter, probably never will, but I don't have a problem will those who do use it. Actually closing your eyes does make you free of the idiots that surround you. Take for instance private property, no idiot will be on your property if you don't want them there. The internet works the same way, if you don't want to view stupid twitter updates, don't view their profile.
annnnnnnd I don't, still does not diminish the millions of idiots that have nothing better to do than wait for a thought to fly through cyber space.
How is it any different from a message board? You don't exactly control the content here. The only real difference is that with twitter/facebook you get to control the people you read messages from. Here you're forced to read rants from Dilbert_X, in your own little twitter/facebook world you could refuse to friend his type and keep to yourself. You get to be the moderator.

Because here, I am kicked back with nothing more pressing going on, I don't need a mobile BF2S to follow just in case some breaking news regarding Israel and Palestine breaks out. I can wait until I get home and have nothing better to do. Your life is not so important to me that I need a play by play of it.

and if someone else's life that, you really don't know, is so important to you that you need a play by play account of it, then you are pathetic and desperately in need of a life of your own.

Nah I don't feel social networking has really become an "ingrained part of our society" sure, for the moment it's all over the place, need it to plan events and keep in contact etc but I feel it's like a fad that will blow over. People used it because it's an escape from real life, a place to express what you think about stuff without having to worry about offending someone. Facebook and such are just moving the real life aspect on to the internet; you can't place any message or photo anymore without having to worry about what your employer / friends may think. It has lost its appeal.

Besides that, I have to agree with lowing on one thing; that it's like one big pool of narcissism going out of control - the only reason people really use it is a need for attention more than anything. LOADS of people checking it hours and hours of every day, updating it with all the stuff they've been doing. A big pile of nothing.

Twitter is okay and useful for short news updates but other than that I feel it's lacking. Trying to follow people in parlement and you don't really get to read anything with actual content in it, you just can't convey thoughts / events in one or two sentences.

Something that's really irreplaceable though; Youtube. That won't disappear.

edit; I do think social networking will stay in one form or another but facebook is gonna go at some point.

angry? I am not angry... They are the idiots that need a following and someone to follow, I am just laughing at them.

If anything, you and others, are displaying anger and disgust at me for calling that bullshit how I see it.... Question is, what does my opinion matter to you so much that you are so insulted?

and like I said before, you are not included in what I was saying. Lets face it, twitter didn't become such a hit because people followed the news.

It became a hit because of the jack holes I described. Ya know, the ones that got so pissed and defensive at me for calling it.

Oh wait. I am supposed to be angry.

Why would anyone follow the news on twitter and not on a news site.

This business of getting news a few minutes before some other people you don't know and feeling special because of it is overrated - and narcissistic.

I woulda stopped with, "why would anyone follow the news". It isn't really news anymore after all. More like entertainment. Gotta be the first to show  the poor guys head explode, ya know.

But since you mention it, why do you need minute by minute play of the news? Was there something you were gunna do to alter it if you had only known?

So much of it is info-tainment, which is why I pretty well only read the paper these days.

Well, I might have heard it before if I were all wirelessed up like the twitter folks. I could get tweeted on the latest slang, and be kept "up to date".

Still angry by the way

Clearly you are angry or you wouldn't keep ranting and making the same retarded argument. Why would anyone follow someone who discloses every single thing they do all day? You and me both would find it incredibly banal and boring. Are there probably a handful out there that do this? Sure. But they hardly make up the majority of twitter and/or facebook users. If someone was writing such trivial crap on my wall I would block them. Like I said lowing, you volunteer to read the crap.

Aren't you Mr. limited government? Don't you get upset when the government tries peeking into peoples lives and tells them what to do? Why are you trying to do the same to others? Stay in your lane.

whoa whoa whoa!! twitter did not become huge because of news feeds. It became huge because of the people I described, and I never said they couldn't or shouldn't be able to do it. I said it is narcissistic to think anyone should give a fuck what you think when you think it so much so that they need your thoughts in real time. The fact that these idiots do this does not affect me in the slightest, doesn't make them any less an idiot. A crack whore doesn't affect me in the slightest either, doesn't make her any less a crack whore.

Have you been on facebook? It is ate up with these very people that post their every waking thought that no one gives a shit about. Blocking them, again, does not make them any less an idiot.

Never recalled where I tried to tell people what to do and would never presume to. Not even sure where you got that from. Regardless, observing stupid behavior and calling it what it is, is a far cry from telling them they can't be stupid.
