It's not BMX, it's downhill mountain biking.  Dudes have like 11 inches of suspension travel in the front, it's crazy.

more like 8 to 9

those downhills are fine but all those super narrow parts?  i'd hit something guaranteed.  my bike has wider handlebars than most though

He's running Race Face Atlas bars, at 780mm uncut, I guarantee they're wider than your bars.

when i used to downhill mountainbike a lot this annual event would be covered in the MTB press a lot... pretty nutty. afaik it's pretty unique in that it's an insane urban/offride track that has all sorts. not sure i'd have ever  had the balls to attempt a course like that. downhill is serious gnarly.

There's way more gnarly courses than that, too.

Try some of the mountain runs in the Alps, etc

Pretty insane sport.

super crazy ski runs about 0.5m away from my mum's house back home... and huge dirt jumps, bowls, single-track... the lot. growing up in the country's biggest ancient oak forest has some benefits everybody went through a 'downhill' phase and geared-up... used to go riding every day after school for hours. so much fun. but yeah, there's a huge step-up to 'that' ^ level. only the crazy fuckers even consider it.

I tried it a couple of times with the uni club. There's a small forest nearby that has been "customised", as you described.

My confidence, ability, protective wear (well, lack of), and sub-par mountain bike with semi slick tyres weren't really up to it, haha.

i went through a huge phase and was lucky enough to have shit-tons of money thrown at the hobby by my parents... had the downhill bike, the protective gear, the dad taking me to races... everything. but it still got to a point where i wasn't physically built enough or mentally fucking insane enough to try the 'advanced' level stuff. i reached my peak and respected that, haha. wasn't going to risk my body for a hobby that's meant to be fun (albeit being an adrenaline sport)

the closest DH course to me at the time was Penshurst, we used to go there quite often. I've no idea what its like now, i do remember going over there one weekend and all it did was rain. An interesting day to say the least including seeing a very unfortunate girl break her arm

You're thinking of the Lisbon Urban DH I think. That's an actual round of the World Cup, this is a small event which hasn't gotten much attention until recently.
