eh, i'm still trying to go pilot for the AF so we'll see what happens. will probably still get my PPL one day. i just got really disoriented on my second solo and lost all sense of direction and it scared the living shit out of me, so i had to stop for a while

can't really explain it. got really dizzy, everything started spinning. instructor was in the terminal listening for me on the radio and luckily he was able to talk me down. used to have really bad anxiety problems though so it might've been connected to that, but i kind of just figured i needed to take a break.

not really, it is consistent, you always act like this. Look you are wrong, you were proven wrong, so suck it up and let it go.
I'm not trying to prove I'm right, that's where this is ironic.
lol oh well then not proving you are right is right up your alley. you are in your comfort zone, not proving you are right and slinging insults and name calling. Yeah you da man.

Not at all, I can't really explain it. like I said I always had bad anxieties but they'd always just result in sweating or something similar. this episode was extremely odd, and scary at that. I did have heart problems back in October of '09, but I doubt it was related to that.

Definitely going to, I don't want to just give up on it entirely. like I said, I'm gonna try to go flight in the AF... we'll see what happens with that.

No, it was a thunderstorm.

General Rules
For any flight that is even potentially near actual or possible thunderstorm activity, pilots should observe the following rules:
Avoid all thunderstorms.
Never go closer than five miles to any visible storm cloud with overhanging areas, and strongly consider increasing that distance to 20 miles or more. You can encounter hail and violent turbulence anywhere within 20 miles of very strong thunderstorms.
Do not attempt flight beneath thunderstorms, even when visibility is good, because of the destructive potential of shear turbulence in these areas.
At the first sign of turbulence, reduce airspeed immediately to the manufacturer's recommended airspeed for turbulent air penetration for a specific gross weight (i.e., maneuvering speed, or Va).
If there is an inadvertent penetration of the thunderstorm, maintain a straight and level altitude on a heading that will take you through the storm area in the minimum time.
Never let compulsion take the place of good judgment.

you did not fly into "several thunderstorms"

Bad luck. My eyesight was never good enough in the first place, only now has it changed to the point its 20/20 corrected but I have wacky astigmatism so I think I'd be out anyway.

I know someone who qualified here to fly feeder aircraft but the pay was terrible and he was given two dangerously faulty aircraft to fly and decided to pack it in.

A French judge recently filed preliminary manslaughter charges against Air France over the crash.
Manslaughter charges?

If they were negligent in the design then potentially manslaughter.

We'll see I guess, if they knew it had a design flaw and continued operating it then maybe.

Otherwise its one of those preliminary things which allows an investigation to kick off.

Nova has a special on flt 447. Very interesting. It is a team of independent investigators that has pieced together a possible/probable solution to what happened based on the available information they have so far.

In a nutshell, all 3 pitot tubes clogged with ice from super cooled water vapor and they lost airspeed indication, shutting down computer processing of flt information. They then lost control of the airplane.

You watch the Nova special on Netflix if you have it.

Or it could be an opportunist trying to find a scapegoat. Happens from time to time. Remember there was attempt to charge some seismologists in Italy with manslaughter not long back because they didn't predict the quake that happened there.
