I would have thought the idea is to add fans to it..?

Don't manufacturers ship the product with fans if it does?

Do you only have the drivers or the whole Creative suite or what's it called nowadays? Its interesting so many people have issues with Creative drivers. I have had 4 different cards made by Creative and never had a single issue.
I haven't really had many problem either tbh but It's not that they are "broken", I just don't have any option to equalise the sound in the new "Creative Audio Control Panel" bollocks.

It just seems a bit much. That thing takes up sooooooooooo much space. Wouldn't it heat up other components near it too, like the RAM for instance?
Depends, if the ramsinks are hotter than the air exiting the cpu cooler, then it will help cool them.

As far a shipping without fans, the idea is to pick a fan that best suits your needs when you buy. Also saves prolimatech a bit...

That's why I asked if you have the drivers only or the WHOLE Creative suite with all other gimmicks such as a media player with equalizer etc. The "drivers only" give you the option to switch between bit depth or different gaming modes and inputs/outputs-the essentials only. So download the whole Creative media source to get all features.

Thanks. Last time I downloaded the drivers it came all as one. Didn't realise I had to download both this time.

Nope. That really popular i7 cooler doesn't. Megalith, or whatever.

megahalems, mega shadow, super mega. The three variants of the same cooler, last one being best.

Prolimatech saved few dollars and I could get fans I wanted. Win win.

Meh My i7 930 sits on 4Ghz fine with a noctua U12p SE2 and the packaged fans. Don't need anything more than that.

If you want a sick CPU cooler, there is that one enclosed liquid cooling unit that pipes the water from the CPU mount to a radiator that you put as an exhaust fan on the back of the case. On the radiator there's a 120mm (iirc) fan that then brings air across the radiator/warm water. Pretty cool design, costs like $70, though.

Problem with those is that you need high rpm fans to push a lot of air through the small rad with lots of fins. And the lifetime of the pump of course (heatsink doesn't really age).

They don't even provide any better cooling than top of the line heatsinks. Perfect for small form factor builds imo, not so for full size ATX build.

I managed to get my PS3 controller working on my PC. Handy, because my PS3 is bricked. Not so handy, because I wasn't counting on Microsoft monopolising the PC game market so badly that generic gamepads aren't supported in most new games, so you need to buy an X360 controller in order to get gamepad support (eg: F1 2010, Dead Space) - for fuck sake, can games not even offer base support for gamepads these days.

BF2 works though, flying aircraft with the PS3 controller is so much better than mouse/keyboard.

I'm such a tard. The program I had already did all the hard work years ago.

All I had to do was change the mode for my PS3 Driver software to Xbox 360 Emulator. And voila, everything works fine in F1 2010, Dead Space etc... even rumble works - I cannot say how much better dead space plays with a controller compared to a mouse, I know it shouldn't because third person shooters should be better with mouse/keyboard but not for this game, believe dat

I have a fully fledged gaming machine now with this shit. Who needs consoles?

Here's the guide I used, for those interesting in using their PS3 controller on the PC:

Ok, I lied. I don't have the ultimate setup yet. I still need to get a widescreen monitor. 4:3 doesn't cut it one bit with gaming for me anymore. Can't see shit.

I was wondering, if you could force games to run in letterbox 16:9 on my 4:3 monitor?

I remember playing PS3 games on my old square TV in my room, and some games would force 16:9 letterbox instead of cutting off the edges with native 4:3.

Films do that all the time, too.

Yeah, just stick the in-game resolution to 1280x720.

Might have to tweak it through the config. I used to do it with CoD4 all the time.
