i think unsaturaded was the good one, but im not sure
It is, but even saturated fat is necessary in small amounts IIRC.

Jaekus, thanks for the info. The hardest part will be actually sticking to that. I think there's some healthy food shop on campus so I guess I'll go there. No more golden arches for me

Try preparing your own meals. I know it takes time but you're better off for it. Cheaper and healthier. A good way is to plan ahead by finding an hour a week where you can make up a bunch of meals like sandwiches etc. and then keep them in the fridge or freezer. Then when you're going out for the day you just grab it from the fridge. Means you actually will have more time on campus because you won't have to line up to get lunch.

Wow, that'd just do my head in.

On that note though, today I weighed myself and I'm down to 81.8kg. When I started I was pushing close to 90kg. Even with drinking 3 nights last weekend I still managed to lose 0.4kg in the past week

Haven't weighed myself in a week; I was at 184 while wet, which is still way too heavy and way too fatty. I'm aiming for 170 of mostly muscle, and though far off, I am making progress. It's much easier to stick to a workout plan when the results are tangible.

Damn right. My progress has seemed slow but when I think about it, I've lost about 7 kilos and more than doubled my starting weights in three months. So really, it's a good sign.

One of the most measurable things for me is my belt. When I started it was on the last notch and that was getting pretty tight. I've since gone back a notch (where it always was) and that has been feeling pretty loose the past week or two...

Oh nice, congratulations on the progress. I'm measuring based on my jump height, as I mentioned earlier, but also simply through the sense of sight and touch. When I look at myself in the mirror, I can see muscles more defined than before and can see my soda fueled abomination of a soft belly slowly receding in size and advancing in abdominal contour. When I flex muscles like the calves or biceps, they seem stronger and more taut than before.

Yeah man. Especially after a workout my arms and chest are quite pumped. I just wish they'd stay like that

Also, regarding workouts, I consulted my dad's former grad student, who has a Ph.D in exercise science, and he said that bicep and tricep isolation exercises basically build non-functional mass. It's something to consider is gaining strength is your primary goal.

I've stopped doing tricep exercises now. I still do my bicep exercises cause I like doing them and I do want to build mass.

You should talk to the guy who has the Ph.D some more and post back in here, I'd be very interested to learn more about that.

lol

I did actually post some stuff I read a while back that's worth a read. Some of it is a little long, but I found it to be quite interesting.

Truth about bulking: http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_art … B-hh.hydra

The one about bulking did clarify some of my suspicions. I always read about people bulking and gaining 2-3 pounds a week by eating 6000-800kcals and just think : WTF, that just sounds unhealthy. So I guess I'm not doing that bad with my 3000-3500 kcals a day

and my calorie intake matches the one at 160lbs (my goal). i actually feel better after reading that as opposed to sad like most traditional bulkers would.
thanks Jaekus. I'll give you some karma for that one

Yeah I had those suspicions too. It's good to know it can be backed up somewhere by people who know what they're talking about. You gotta thank one of my late night reading sessions that link from one page to the next for finding those.

Nice one. Thing is because you're upping weight all the time you'll definitely be feeling it soon. I started squats 35kg and in the past 3 weeks have gone up 20kg, with increases at every workout. So in another 2 weeks I should almost have doubled my starting working weight, all things going well.

My legs were very sore on Thursday. I've always been a "sore the next day" person.

Everyone is. Your recovery improves though. The first week I could barely walk properly. Now I'm lifting way more than when I started and I'm never sore the next day, sometimes slightly tight but that's it

lol, Thursday it was a chore to walk up flights of stairs. Call me masochistic but I kinda like the feeling.

I can't wait to wake up and feel the soreness in my shoulders and back lol

Yeah I know what you mean, it's kinda cool. Except the week I couldn't walk properly it was like I'd just taken a massive cock up the arse. Which I'm not used to, please be gentle
