how much of a performance increase would swapping my 5400rpm hdd in my laptop for a 7200rpm hdd?
for a fatty you're a serious intellectual lightweight.
Depends what you do with it. The battery life will certainly decrease.
well I'm gonna get a 12 cell battery, the only time it's on battery is on the bus/train or on the crapper, or on a break at college.ebug9 wrote:

i use it for office, browsing, video, music, very light gaming (UT99, TMNations, etc)

Depends... since alot of brands take the cheapest piece of shit HDD they can get away with, the powerconsumption of a 7200 could be as low if not lower than a 5400

Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me
Don't do it cammy, it'd be a very very small increase in performance if any at all.
again could be true, could not.. it all depends on the HDD he has vs the one he wants to buy...Finray wrote:

someone spec me a good keyboard, please. mechanical keyboard would be lovely but im not sure im willing to drop £100 on a typist's keyboard when im on a student budget. not even sure i want to buy another logitech g15... expensive mistake to spill water on one of those. looking for an average keyboard... don't care if its 'gamer' or just standard, as long as it's good quality and will last.
so fire. karmaz.

Also your student budget is like 10x mine

Logitech Illuminated is classy and apparently very nice to type on.
I would stay away from saitek... Mine worked well, but if anything goes wrong that company has the worst customer service ever. Also the cyborg is a pretty low end keyboard isn't it?Camm wrote:

Fuck that Cyborg V5 looks great, back to the roots of the V1, none of this touch-sensitive gimmicky shite.
I have the Eclipse V1, fin has the V2, jay has the V3, absolutely nout wrong with them.Nic wrote:

He was talking about customer support. Also that keyboard you linked is ugly as fuck.Camm wrote:

I have that keyboard (the G110), typing on it as I speak. Totally agree with what you said. Was looking for a kb without an lcd screen that the G15/19 have and wanted some macro keys. Absolutely love it, only thing I don't like is you have to spin the volume wheel too much to turn down the volume. Other than that it is a great alternative to the G15/G19.Lucien wrote:
I always thought the G15/19 were over the top, this one's a bit more sober.
logitech keyboards aren't mechanical are they? not in the same league as the IBM or the Das Keyboard, anyway...
tbh my g15 didn't feel that great to type on. kinda tacky, plasticky, loose and a bit rubbish. no cushion or responsiveness to the key presses. it's all bonus bullshit: the screen, the LED's, the macro keys, the 'gamer lock', all this superfluous bullshit that drives the price up a lot.
i used to have a saitek keyboard and jesus fucking christ those things look like they're TACKY. it's like the sort of keyboard you'd imagine being sold as a fake-toy for children at Toys'R'Us or something. lights and all sorts of ugly aesthetic plastic shite everywhere. thanks for the suggestion but i think they're low-grade awful. the only reason they cost as much as they do is because they're an OMFG GAMERZ! brand.
the microsoft sidewinder seems to be a solid, middle-of-the-road choice at the moment for a budget keyboard.

No they aren't, reviews say its nice to type on though. It does have a different key style than the g15 though. The sidewinder is one I have thought of getting before, I like the option to remove the number pad or switch its sides. I would have reccomended Razers mechanical offering but it is way above the price you listed.
The Logitech Illuminated offers a scissor type key system, seen here:

I'm pretty sure the g15 doesn't use that system.

tbh if i was going to go mechanical i'd get the das keyboard ultimate... those things look incredible.

just go to the local electronics superstore and find the cheapest ergonomical keyboard. You can find them for under $50. I think I paid like $25 for mine, some Microsoft one. In my (limited) opinion, gaming keyboards are too bulky and over-the-top. I've only played on a g15 and saitek cyborg earlier versions though.
i saw a discussion on this somewhere else, apparently you can get some amazing ones second hand from ebay and stuff. id just clean it thoroughly before using it
Tried out all the latest Logitech models in local shop and not gonna drop 100€ for the kind of 'quality' I felt. Never.
