So I have a choice to make between the following headphone models:
- Klipsch S4
- Beats by Dr. Dre
- Ultimate Ears 500
- Shure SE115

Maximum price of $120 from Best Buy, but there's a link for the headphones at Best Buy in case any of you have a better recommendation:

I have the Shure SE110's (I think the 115s replaced them). They're lacking quite a bit in the lower range. That and the foam/silicon ear pieces are quite uncomfortable. I wouldn't recommend them.

A friend of mine has the Diddy Beats and she loves the hell out of them, says they have lots of bass.

ebug - they really lack a lot of bass? That's a shame. I read the reviews on the Klipsch phones are quite even but require a burn in period (but I've been led to understand by reading the reviews on the Klipsch phones that a lot of higher end phones require a proper burn in).

Please keep the posts coming. Would love to hear what you guys think and can recommend (again, if you have a better recommendation that is not on the list above).

I would say UE or Shure.... personally, going to go with the Shures

The E3's (Or SE115, i guess) are sort of the lowest end.... they're going to be a decent pair, but not nearly as good as the E5's (or.... SE535, i guess)

It is, however, important to note that for my application, i need something different: I use them in a professional setting, for personal IEM (In Ear Monitoring) for performers, so keep that in mind.

Sound isolating = noise isolating?

The Shures are sound isolating the Klipsches are noise isolating...

Reaps, answer the question. Here's my thoughts behind the question: noise isolating is more along the lines of blocking out background noise with technology like the Bose headphones where the sound isolating is more about just making the fit in your ear really tight.

This is probably wrong, but I just want to make sure that they're the same thing and it's just different marketing talk.

Contrary to popular belief, a lot of of bass does not equal good headphones. Beats aren't worth half as much as they cost.

Also, the notion of how much a headphone will change with burning in is probably exaggerated. That being said, having a burn in period isn't an issue - you just play music through the headphones at a level slightly louder than listening level for a few days before you use them. Or just use them normally.

that's noise cancelling vs isolation.... but yes.

Ahh... so the canceling would be the active tech that a lot of the higher end cans use. OK then, so it's just the different marketing language for each brand. Never mind then.

Noise cancelling is very interesting technology.... but i'd still prefer isolation over noise cancelling.
