I really should post a picture of my Ford Escort. It has more lights than most cop cars. Ask Morpheus, I've blinded him before.

No grill lights, and no bar... unless you've added something?
EE (hats
If/when I get a new car I'll have grill lights. I guarantee it.
sounds like a disaster

People get out of my way, that's all I care about.
My car is a fucking lemon... seriously. All the issues I've had with it in the past 6 months of owning it is outrageous. I hope those motherfuckers that sold the car to me telling me that "they're selling it because their daughter graduated from college and they're getting her a new car" get bit in the fucking ass by karma.
My car might as well belong in a junkyard... 1999 VW Jetta. It seemed fantastic when I test drove it but after owning it a few months and through two season changes, now I understand why they sold it. Let's get started:
1. the transmission had a broken valve harness and the valve body was damaged, cost over $600 to repair, and it still doesn't run as its supposed to... sometimes shift hard and also hesitates sometimes when I first put it into gear and its rolling forward without any gas applied
2. I'm pretty sure the rear wheel hub / bearings are shot because they make a high pitched "wub wub" sound when I drove slowly, and my car groans when I make slow turns
3. there's a very small oil leak somewhere around the oil filter housing
4. it needed new rotors and pads on the front... they still groan and vibrate when I come to a stop or creep forward
5. it also needed new tires because there were three different kinds of tread on the tires, that were also worn out a lot
6. the car ran almost ice cold starting in the winter... the thermostat was bad so I replaced it and double checked everything to make sure I installed it correctly, and now instead it sprays coolant - taking it to the shop tomorrow
7. there were also lots of things wrong with it that were minor nuisances such as a broken engine splash guard, bad headlights, broken hood insulation, etc... the list goes on
I seriously hope karma bites the sellers back in the fucking ass because they sold it to us because "they were buying their daughter a college grad gift". Yeah right, more like "we're going to sell it because there's just about EVERYTHING wrong with this car".

it's an eleven year old car. shit's gonna wear out.
I've seen older cars in better condition.Reciprocity wrote:

You got a car that had been driven by a high school girl. Let me tell you a little secret about high school girls and their car maintenance skills...well, they are lacking. I think I killed two cars in high school.
...
because they've been maintained. If your wheel bearing is shot, why don't you replace it?alexb wrote:

Can't you/why didn't you get it checked by a mechanic before buying it?
I should have, but didn't think about it. Even though it felt fine I should have because now I have to pay out the ass for repairs.DrunkFace wrote:

Total repairs cost about $180 USD. The mechanics inspected the brakes and wheels and said they look and operate perfectly fine, and that the noises that I hear are just the car's age; it's mechanically running great. The thermostat housing had somehow been damaged which was causing a leak... which I'm sure it wasn't my fault because its a piece of metal; there was a bit of rust around it though. The small oil leak that I mentioned was possibly from the oil cooler - I'll keep an eye on it and if it leaks some more I should be able to seal it up - I did buy extended mileage fully synthetic oil that's formulated to help keep seals from leaking.
I'm happy.

Listen to this thing on the overrun
for a fatty you're a serious intellectual lightweight.
sounds fecked lol
it looks disgusting, i hate the non-race version too, but fair play to the guy for having them built

Is brake fluid pretty universal?
My Crown Vic is low on it(a little bit above the part where the top and bottom of the chamber meet but still not anywhere near the 'max' line) and the red light comes on occasionally when I stop, also takes almost halfway through the pedal to get it to start braking at all.
Wondering if I should get like some kind of special Ford-approved brake or if that shit I saw at the $ store the other day would work. lol, not that I would use that but that's the first thing that comes to mind.

There are different types of brake fluid and some cars are more particular than others. I can't tell you off the top of my head what you should be looking for but I bet the car's manual could._j5689_ wrote:

My car is '99 and it's fantastic... aside from the clutch, but that just needs a cable adjusted.Reciprocity wrote:

u jelly alex?
Yeah if you take good care of a car it can last a long while. My friend drives a Saturn LS2 from like 2001 and you could only call it shitty because, well, it's a cheap car. Still runs fine.
My 21 year old Fiesta decided it needed £500 spending on it in order to pass it's MOT ... and I decided it's not worth it, if I'm going to spend any money at all I might as well just buy a new car. So I'm planning on doing just that.
Will be crazy driving a car without a manual choke and with power steering. Brakes that actually work will be nice, too.

Mine used to be a company car, so it was really well maintained.
how many miles? i just turned over 16k.
