If they're such role models in your eyes, surely a fallen athlete who redeems themselves and makes a turnaround in their lives is a great inspiration to those who have made similar mistakes to turn their lives around too?

No I live in the same world you do. Where job applications ask for convictions and back ground checks are taken for applicants.

It is the same world you live in, and you would not refuse to take background checks or ask if the applicants were convicted felons.
