What does concealment have to do with it? Plenty of American states don't even allow concealment (or they at least make it hard as hell to get a permit for that).
make it open carry then, hell make it owning a pistol for self defense in your home..... I'll waitTurquoise wrote:

Quite a few shall-issue states on there...
Fuck you're retarded. Find me statistics that prove that seatbelts kill as many people as guns and i'll advocate regulating their use to.Pug wrote:

I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.
Cohesive argument for which debate?
CCW? Shall-issue CCW? "Constitutional carry?" Firearm ownership? Handgun ownership?

I want to hear a decent argument for carrying a gun around in public, provided no-one did it then there would be no need for anyone to carry a gun around. Fed up with hearing it's for protection to, it's legal to own a gun here yet no-one carries one around in public unless they're a criminal.
As for the comparison between guns and seatbelts/smoke alarms/ fire extinguishers/whatever, it's the most retarded argument i've ever encountered, one group of these has been designed with the specific purpose of saving lives, the other with taking it. Wonder if those making this argument have the wherewithal to work out which is which.

Zach Osler, in an interview Wednesday with ABC's "Good Morning America," said: "He did not watch TV. He disliked the news. He didn’t listen to political radio. He didn’t take sides. He wasn’t on the left. He wasn’t on the right."
Osler said he instead suspects that Loughner was motivated by a documentary called, "Zeitgeist: The Movie," which slams currency-based economics.
"I really think that this 'Zeitgeist' documentary had a profound impact upon Jared Loughner's mindset and how he viewed the world that he lives in," he said.

I still can't see the need to carry a gun in public. Gun ownership is fairly easy here yet we don't have any of the problems of mass murders like this involving firearms.
edit: by fairly easy I'm implying you have a reason to own a gun and are prepared for the paperwork/checks involved, ie if you're joining a shooting club.

You assume that no one would need to protect themselves with a weapon if no one else carried weapons around. The fact of the matter is that criminals exist to victimize people. They have since the dawn of man, and since that time--people have carried weapons (or learned martial arts) to defend themselves. One could argue that by your logic, no one should learn karate or other such martial arts--they were developed to hurt people, just like firearms, right?presidentsheep wrote:

and my point is, self defense can not be your "good reason".. As I said, Your govt. has removed that right from you and replaced it with hope and prayer for a compassionate criminal and a timely bobby.presidentsheep wrote:

However becoming proficient in martial arts would require years of training and that would involve the discipline and control that came with it, you can't just walk into a shop and purchase years of martial arts training to be downloaded into your brain.

And you can carry concealed as well.. it's just the process to get one is long and complicated. I was going to post this earlier but I didn't want to get dragged into gun debate number 1201 here at bf2s.com. I was trying to actually stay focused on the details of the topic, rather than talking to the proverbial wall here, aka whatever the opposition is.FatherTed wrote:

from what I have read, self defense is not considered reason enough to own a firearm. So I doubt you can carry concealed.Kmar wrote:

No, but conversely you can't just walk into a shop and buy the proficiency to use a firearm, now can you?presidentsheep wrote:

Fair point, but two highly populated states are very restrictive about it... NY and California.SenorToenails wrote:

I didn't realize only 4 states overall are highly restrictive.
And apparently another 2 don't allow concealed.

It depends on where you live in NY. Many counties are effectively shall-issue, but NYC is a bitch to get a permit in, apparently. And in other city-bearing counties, like Erie and Monroe (both of which I have lived in), it takes 12+ months to get approved for a pistol permit, and a buddy of mine has been trying to get his CCW in Erie county for a few years now...apparently the judges are unsympathetic to his reasons.Turquoise wrote:

So, in other words, Jared was just a gullible conspiracy theorist looking for something to confirm his insane fears.Kmar wrote:

It looks like Illinois and Wisconsin are very restrictive.SenorToenails wrote:

No but i'm betting someone can kill more people with less training in firearms than martial arts.SenorToenails wrote:

I think he's suggesting that the training that many gun owners lack is part of the problem of allowing the public to have guns without some sort of training requirement involved.SenorToenails wrote:
