There are certainly caveats to gun use, but most of them are remedied by proper training and ensuring that the mentally ill and criminally oriented don't get them.presidentsheep wrote:
What if someone makes a mistake and shoots the guy who'd disarmed the gunman and was just holding his gun? Or what if someone shoots at another person who'd started shooting at the gunman? I just can't see how adding more people with guns into situations like this would help in any way, again it might just be the environment I grew up in.
You are probably more likely end up in a situation where a fire extinguisher would be more helpful than a gun, or a life jacket or a first aid kit, or any number of things. Do you carry all these on you as well?lowing wrote:

I didn't say murder this time. Even if it is in self defence, you still have to leave your home carrying something you know you could kill someone with because you fear someone else might be carrying the same sorta thing.lowing wrote:

The US should have simple voting requirements. 1. highschool diploma or GED. 2. Current or Previous Military Service. 3. A fulltime Job that is not funded by taxes.
This would fix all problems with the US government is record time.
Going by your system every person who was fortunate enough to not have to join the military and instead were able to go to college after HS would be penalized for either being smart enough to get great grades or penalized for not being poor.
Also everyone who doesn't work 40 hours a week but still manages to produce high incomes (some investors, designers, entertainers, executives etc.) would lose their ability to vote despite being important parts of their communities and the fields.
Screw the "only former military gets to vote" shit. The vast majority of people who join do it only to get out of their socioeconomic class. Fuck the stupid ass reverence to the military.
I'm sick of people taking but not willing to give. Fuck-em, don't vote. I am sick of people on the Federal and State pay-rolls voting themselves pay raises and benefits. I am sick of lazy fucks with no job voting themselves welfare and free healthcare. I'm sick of daughters of crack whores getting knocked up in highschool to drop out and become a ghetto trash welfare mom cranking out a basketball team worth of drug dealing gang members who only go to highschool to sell drugs before dropping out.
At least the military teaches you about putting the welfare of the MISSION/NATION ahead of your own. It instills pride in country and gives one perspective of wtf is worth fighting and dying for.
Become a citizen and join the military.
I would prefer to go to gaol, then have some meat head with the intelligence of a cabbage yell at me to do pointless repetitive tasks and push ups.Lotta_Drool wrote:

That is a fair question. The answer is you avoid the confrontation if at all possible even if it means running the other direction.. You do not brandish your weapon. You only draw it if you have no choice with the intent to use it. If drawing it smartens the guy up good for you, if it does not scare him and he still comes after you, and you have no escape route, you defend yourself. Especially if you pull your weapon and you don't shoot, you risk the possibility of your attacker taking it form you and using it against you.Nic wrote:
That would most likely be a kill thing, but I would probably say something about stopping first or identifying themselves. Immediately shooting to kill is what gets family members killed.lowing wrote:

That's one way of looking at it, but not all criminals are the same, just as not all situations are.
I prefer to weigh the situation. I realize it ultimately comes down to wits and perception, but I'm confident that I would be capable of making a rational decision to kill or not to kill if I was faced with a potentially fatal encounter. I don't automatically shoot to kill.
Another situation:
Someone comes at you with a knife, bat, fists etc. from a distance.
Do you automatically shoot to kill, or do you draw your gun and say something along the lines of "are you stupid? get the hell out of here!"
yer right and isn't that the point?presidentsheep wrote:

Yep, the other point is. It's an irrational fear.
If they ban guns the bad fellas will get a hold of them and you'll be fucked being the nice little law abiding citizen.

You are probably the last person I would ever want holding a gun to protect me. A prime example of why people should not have them.-Sh1fty- wrote:

but to seriously answer your question: no. I am not a doctor or an EMT. nor do I walk around with shock paddles.
