So, outcome of the appointments with the physiotherapist and consultant is good. I don't have to wear the brace any more and am free to do whatever I please with the exceptions of "contact sports" and "heavy lifting". Got another x-ray booked for 3 months time and in theory should be fully healed within 6 months.

If you have pain while lying down, try using a pillow between your knees when lying on your side. It helped plenty for me when I was recovering from surgery. Keeps the spine straight and helps relax the muscles that are bound to be in work all the time.
