How long do they think it'll take to fully recover?
I'm not sure yet. I should know by Tuesday.
The French doctors said I had to wear the brace for three months, originally. The consultant I saw on Thursday reckoned that was over the top and suggested something closer to 6 weeks. I'll know definitively on Tuesday.
The nature of the fracture is such that it can't be made worse by over-stressing my back, and thus the brace isn't really doing anything aside from reminding me not to bend or twist my spine and not to lift heavy objects; which may cause pain/bruising/swelling. It doesn't really provide much support.
I recover fully, however long it takes.

Wait, did the ambulance drive you to a hospital in the uk?
Through the Chunnel and everything?
Yes. There's a company based in Ashford that does just that. They drive from the UK to destinations all around Europe, pick up the patient and drive them all the way back to their front door (or a hospital in the UK).
I was speaking to my drivers and they said they were in Croatia the week before and in a resort just down the road from Alpe d'Huez a day before collecting me.
