yep, unless we had some training during the weekend, which happened more often than not. there used to be a base policy set forth by i think it was III corp commander barring any units from training on the weekend but as soon as he left, that rule was pretty much ignored. when we werent training we would be shamming or trying tyo avoid being caught on stupid details like mowing the lawn or sitting at the desk or motor pool maintenance. sometimes the unit would have a full month or more dedicated to base duties. thats when we wouldnt train but we would be pulling gate guard or being ushers at the museum or maintaining the atheltic field. those were usually sham times though because we be done with work before lunch.

Most of the time, yeah. You might get called out in the middle of the night for a piss test or a ruck march or something but it's not that often. Three basic rules for keeping happy soldiers: you never fuck with their time, money or freedom. Do that too often and morale goes to shit and you have an ineffective fighting force.
